Hey Everyone! I was just curious, since for NYE (New Year's Eve) I went to Together As One (a rave of over ~30,000 in Los Angeles). It was huge, intense, tons of fun, and a wild night to say the least.

I asked a fellow pre-med if he wanted to come along and he said "TO A RAVE?! NOT ME!!" so it got me wondering how many pre-meds attend raves or love rave music, etc.?

👍

I just looked up Together as One. Ferry Corsten was there??? Damn. Sasha and Digweed too? That must have been amazing. So yea, chalk me up as a raver. I had the chance to go to Tiesto and PVD earlier this year. Amazing!

i went to giant this year even though i heard TAO was pretty good. did u get to see deadmau5 ?

Dude, just drop acid at home.

My experiences with raves has been that they are a great place to go if you are 14 and thus too young to get into any real club. I definitely havenever been to one of 30k people though. That sounds nuts. What kinda music were they playing? Any big name DJs?

Yeah Ferry Corsten was my biggest reason for going and he rocked the house (he was closing). Sasha and Digweed were really good but I was sort of disappointed maybe i overhyped the act haha.

I did see deadmau5 and enjoyed that alot actually.

Ferry owned it up - he came on at 2:30 (supposed to be on at 2) and he played until past 4:30 when the rave was supposed to be over at 4. Tons of fireworks, flames, etc. while he was changing up hits like Fire, Beautiful, etc. - one of the best times of my life haha.

TaO was one of the craziest sights i've ever seen. Definitely 2 thumbs up from me 👍 🙂

Sasha, Digweed, and Corsten are monsters in the biz

hahahaha yeah I guess 🙄...but you are right i am 19 so I can't get into good clubs so that might be a reason they are so appealing. But clubs don't have the same feel to them - I'm sure the 21+ are way better though.

They played all kinds - three separate stages. They had one upstairs with tons of break dancing and light shows going on especially. They had a Bass/drums room with tons of craziness, the main stage which was best because of the huge crowd, and outside stage for when you're hot but don't want to stop dancing 🙂

The biggest DJ's (or ones I went for) were Ferry Corsten, Sasha and Digweed, Dieselboy - that's about it for main ones.

I guess I'm out of the loop for electronica I don't recognize any of those except for Sasha. I've heard and have music by PVD, Tiesto, Oakenfold, Johan Gielen, Infected Mushroom and a couple of others. I like my electronica hard hitting, and psych-trancey. That or downtempo acid jazz/trip hop, but that doesn't really fit in to this scene.

for me these "electronic music festivals" are about dancing and good vibes and everything. clubs on the other hand are a whole different scene, with lots of drunk people and an emphasis on getting laid and things like that. of course, at those events its kind of gross to see 14 year old kids in huge puddles on the ground.

did u get a chance to go to EDC last june? that was a crazy party. Im not that big into trance but it is much better to groove to then hip hop. Im assuming your from San Diego - the clubs in Downtown / Gaslamp actually pull alot of world talent ,I think when you hit 21 ull find that on broadway and belo are the two spots for trance music. They had like Armin van buren, gabriel and dresden , paul van dyk and thats just over the past few months. Different scene though for sure.

Astral Projection? If you like Infected Mushroom, try Astral Projection. You also need to look into armin van buuren & above and beyond if you are into trance, great stuff.

oh man...why couldn't he come to the
midwest!!!

Because...this was in LOS ANGELES...you are in the MIDWEST...haha jk just teasing 😛.

And Drogba, I heard Infected Mushroom made the house go insane at Monster Massive (also in LA).

I saw Armin Van Buren at my first rave in Colorado of all places haha. Yeah I dont go to party to try and get laid and catch the clap haha I go out to have a good time and because I am in love with music haha. and because it's a release from commitments, stress, etc. 🙂 I cant wait to be 21 in SD...good times ahead.

Have any of you heard of the Transistance compilations?

haha, we get our fair share too. Of all the names that have been mentioned, only Corsten has not come here. Everyone else was here at one point or another.

if your from chicago then u can't be complaining. you guys get so many of the new electro artists if not from the local area then coming through at least. kid sister, atrak, chromeo and justice just to name a few.

not into electronica

there is a difference between that and trance music, i prefer the latter

any good recommendations in the genre?
nothing specifically, but there are some great compilations out there in the bittorrent world

obviously, i cant tell you how to go about getting them on bittorrent due to SDN rules, but search for "Goa Trance" and "Goa Tribes" There are multiple volume sets out with these names. And tons more for Psy Trance. In my opinion, multiple artist compilations are your best bet. You hear the best stuff by everyone.

it ticks me off when people say techno and trance are the same, THEY ARE NOT

Cascada is not trance, it is trash

Hey hey hey! Cascada I agree is very different from most rave music but even I have some appreciation for it 🙄. It's more techno-ish yes. But still has some good.

o jeez...really? come on now!

Wanted to go to giant for NYE but was on call, went to an after hours when I got off at 10 AM. Been going to raves since the music was called acid house, now I'm really giving away my age.

dnb i can dig for a lil while, but ive pretty much restricted myself to trance

Finally! I have found a group that likes the same kind of music I like! Ferry kicks ass! I tend to stream the Judge Jules radio 1 show to look for new music. Glad to know there are more of us out there!

Raves...aw memories!

i've been to WAY too many parties to count, but i'd never classify myself as a raver. just a guy who likes to dance (and look at the drugged 13 year olds with awe - the bad kind).

dnb, electro and technohead over here.

highlights of my electronica days:
warehouse party next to Crazy Gideon's in LA getting broken up by cops
day rave at long beach marina (EDC)
burningman (not really a rave...but at times it is close enough)
farm rave outside of brighton - dancing on 6' high hay bales!

i feel old when i go to promoted raves these days. The whole 21+ mentioned above is completely true.
