if anyone of you applicants have any questions about OCPM, i would happy to field them. please no caribbean medical schools discussion. thanks!🙂

Did OCPM actually make the deal with the cleveland cavs (becoming their F and A doctors) or was just hopes and dreams?

i haven't heard anything about that. it doesn't make sense that a college would go for that; its not like the students can treat people without residency training first. maybe the clinic was chasing that--i dig into that a bit.

as for snow, it is here for a while. usually novemeber to april (if i remember correctly) i have only been here 1 full winter, so that may have been abnormal. we don't have snow here yet, so i can't tell you for sure. how is that for helpful!!

I have an interview at OCPM this Friday. My wife and I are planning on sticking around Saturday to look around, specifically at places to live. Do you have any suggestions where to look? I am married and have a 4 year old and a baby on the way. So it would definitely need to be a good family area. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I may consider buying a home but don't know yet so anywhere where homes are nice yet affordable (if possible) would be good.

Thanks

Why didn't OCPM merge with the Cleveland Clinic? That would have been HUGE! I understand they still work with CC, but being associated and actually merging are different.

good question. i have heard all sorts of reasons, and can't get anything verified by one of our top dudes. ocpm is private, and i think they wanted to remain independent and private. i agree though, a merger with CC would have been huge. i don't know that such a merger was an option however. among some of the things floating around is a rumor of strong distaste between the school and the CC. i have no idea what to believe on that one.

When you interview, they will give you a packet with a list of places to live etc.... I currently live at the regency apartments. We have a 3 bedroom apartment that is very roomy and nice and pay close to about 900....it includes heat, water and wireless internet among other things. It is a decent place and is about 15 min away from school. Probably 15-20% of all the students live there now. hope that helps

I am thoroughly considering to attend ocpm
Honestly if i were to apply next year to ocpm with a 3.0 would i get in.?. What do you think about the school etc.????

3.0 sci gpa?

more info.

with a 3.0 sci and 3.0 overall, i think you would need atleast a 20

Is OCPM still taking like many health professional school placement tests? I remember them saying they take the GRE, MCAT, DAT, OAT, PCAT. It's kind of nuts considering the pod schools are moving towards MCAT only direction (CSPM, Scholl, AZPOD, more or less DMU) this year.

never knew they took the OAT.
I think OCPM is being a lot stricter on students who took the DAT. I know of a guy with a 20 or 19, who got put on the 5 year plan.

That's good to hear. I was so surprised when they said 85-90% of applicants are accepted (this was last year). From looking on these forums, it seems like they upped their standards

I have a 3 accum and like a 2.7 sci what type of mcat score would i need to get into ocpm

Just for clarification, DMU takes ONLY the MCAT, there are a few (VERY FEW) exceptions to that and they are highly situation based. If you're considering applying to DMU, I would highly encourage you to take the MCAT in order to prevent a conditional acceptance or run the risk of not being accepted at all.

I was just curious hows the staff overthere is, as far as helpfulness goes with questions and office hours.

I thought the staff was great at OCPM. I have interviewed at 5 of the 8 schools including Scholl and I was very impressed with OCPM but have had a very bad experience with Scholl. I have had to e-mail them 6 + times and called and left messages with no call back. To tell you the truth that kind of drains my interest of going to Scholl. They need to be better with that aspect.

OCPM on the other hand has been very accomodating as well as a few other schools such as Barry and NYCPM.

How is it going to a school that stands alone? As in it's not connected to a DO program... Also, do they hook you up with roomates or just housing options?

I know that when I was there for an interview they said they have a roommate list or something like that plus they give you listings of close by apartments where a lot of the current students live.

That is another good thing about OCPM. I was impressed with how much info they give you on places to stay. And the prices are relatively cheap compared to NYCPM, Barry, or Scholl. With reason, just outside of Cleveland isn't really a hot spot for tourists but anyway from talking to current students there are alot of good options for housing.

Housing @ OCPM I give it 👍👍

Depends what kind of "tourist activities" your into

Cleveland has one of the best art museums around and I believe the 2nd best theater district in the US

i was in Vancouver BC this summer and the busses were literally covered with large advertisements for the Cleveland Museum of Art

Like I said Cleveland is a major tourist attraction.

No really I didn't know all of that but that is pretty cool. Can't wait to go see the sites.

not to mention the museum of history of rock and roll(?), the science museum, the air force museum in Dayton, the charming feel of a dilapidated rust-belt city, LaBron James' house, and a few other equally appealing hot spots!! C-town really isn't that bad. i kinda like the lake-effect snow that pretty much doesn't stop falling.

Does anyone know how many students typically apply to OCPM compared to how many are interviewed and then eventually accepted? Also, is it too late to apply to podiatry school now (i have around a 3.3 science, 3.5 cum., and 18 DAT score) with a lot of extracurricular acitivies too.

I don't know how many apply each year but I don know it is not to late for you to apply.

I think priority registration ends at the end of April but If I were you I would apply as quick as possible because classes are already filling up.

I will more than likely be attending OCPM. Maybe I will see you there. Good luck.

Dean Lott told me that OCPM doesn't accept DAT scores anymore, so I would have to take the MCAT or 'Science-Specific GRE' as soon as possible in early 2008.....does anyone know much about the scores I would have to get on the MCAT or Science-Specific GRE? I heard that a 21 is needed on the MCAT but I wasnt sure about the GRE. Also, there are several Science-GRE exams, so which would I have to take? If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it....thanks

During my interview I was told last year they interviewed close to 200 students for the 108 seats. They accepted about 170 or so of those who interviewed. I would go ahead with the MCAT if I were you. If you did relatively well in your ug science courses, it shouldn't be too hard for you. Something to think about anyway...

so I'm assuming I'm screwed to apply for 2008 since the next time I can take the Bio-Subject GRE is April and the MCAT late January (which i wont be ready to take after a month of studying) and the next time to take that is in April too. This sucks because I really want to get in for next year but the times of these exams are out of my control. Although my online application will be sent before 2008, I guess I'll just wait it out and send in my scores in April and HOPE that the class isn't full by then......I'm hoping that my new undergrad science GPA, 3.33, and overall GPA 3.494 will help with my stats.........also I have a post-bac science and overall GPA of 3.50 that could help.........any advice???

Some schools will offer conditional acceptances to applicants who do not have test scores. I applied to all 8 in mid september, ended up receiving 8 interviews....6 acceptances and 2 "holds." I will take the MCAT most likely in april. It may be more difficult to do this now though if you have not submitted the online application yet. However, maybe you can all the schools and ask them specifically about it.
