Any schools non-PBL with low amt. of lecture?

Call me anti-social, but I am interested in a curriculum that is not PBL (or at least very little) and that does not have/require a large amount of lecture attendance. Probably advantageous if it is either private or accepts a significant amount of out of staters....any thoughts?

How about we make two lists - schools to avoid, and schools to consider, vis a vis PBL and required lecture attendance:

I was going to say OSU as well. This is one of the reasons I don't want to go to OSU. I think I like PBL and I'm tired of being anonymous.

Sounds like a plan. Only a very few schools have mandatory lecture, and many have the lectures available on computerized format now.

I do think it's funny that folks are looking for schools without PBL, given that things like PBL and increased clinical exposure were really added to the curriculum at most places due to complaints of students over the years that they got insufficient exposure to real medicine during the basic science years.

I know that drexel actually has streaming video of the lecture that day, so people can watch it from any location without being there

Are all PBL schools Pass/Fail? I'd think they'll be a lot of disgruntled med students if there were grading systems at those schools.

Some of the PBL schools still have exams at the end of the block and that is the basis of "grades" (I know some at least have honors/high pass/pass).

At Ohio State you have a choice between the Independent Study Pathway, where you primarily learn on your own with some optional lectures, and a more traditional lecture-based curriculum with some small groups. Neither pathway was described as PBL, however. If you want to avoid both PBL and mandatory lectures, OSU should be ideal for you.

Well, some people do like PBL. Others don't. I don't know what would be surprising about this.

Lectures are also optional and recorded so you can listen from home. Not everything is optional attendance though, when we have PBL or path lab they do take attendance.

But all in all I love having the afternoon free (other than Mondays when we have CPM). I don't know how anyone ever studies with 8-4 classes.

Drexel has both a traditional and an entirely separate PBL curriculum. That is, you get to choose. And yeah, all their lectures are available online.

as far as i know temple is lecture based and in class from 8-12 daily.

ohsu has only two hours of lecture of day without two hours of lab. however, one day a week, you'll have a 4 hour principles of clinical medicine class, which i think is interactive. lots of schools don't require course attendance and have tons of material online.
