I'm curious if there are any single moms out there who are starting med school this fall? How do you plan on doing it? Daycare, family help, a nanny? Are you nervous about the limited time you will have for your kid(s)?

Have you checked out the mommd.com website?

Click here: http://www.mommd.com/index.shtml - they have a pretty active forum section with lots of discussion about issues of medschool with a family in tow.

I'm still an undergrad, but have changed my major from pre-med to another field for this reason. I'm worried about "sacrificing" my kids for my career... plus I'd be 40 by the time I graduated if I kept on with my ridiculous med school dreams. I've been having doubts lately though, I don't want to be 10 years down the road and regret making this decision..

Good luck. 🙂

No dream is ridiculous. It has been done and it can be done. I realize you have extra challenges as a mother, but don't sell yourself short. You can either go for the medical school thing, or try to find another career you'd be happy in with less work time and training. For example, you could be a physician assistant, nurse, nurse practitioner, pharmacist, etc. All take less training than a doctor, and once you're done you can work a normal work week. good luck and don't give up until you find a way to be the mom you want and have the career you want.
