I have been searching for this for a while.

1) How many applications for admission does ABP receive?
2) How many applicants are rejected from all 5 schools?

Can anyone help me on this?:)

I have been trying to get the same answers, but to this day no one really gave me a real answere.

ABP seems to have a "Don't Ask, Don't tell" policy. They haven't shared any residency profile, admission profile, or applicant profile details as of yet.
I hope they get some stats together and make them available to future applicants.

Even simple things like total number of NA applicants and seats for each school would be very nice...

I emailed ABP when I was thinking about applying to Ireland and this is the information that he gave me:

Over 2500 applications per year

RCSI Graduate Entry reserves 25 seats for non-EU students

Typically ~250 students go to Ireland through ABP.

I asked for a residency list for RCSI, and he gave me the following for a *selection* of residencies from ALL of the schools ABP is affiliated with. Sorry for the bad formatting.

Thanks for the info, it's very helpful to have at least a broad idea regarding our chances of getting in. :luck:

Hmmm...about 1/10 chance...many of those residencies look mightily good...

10:1 is about right. Two years ago for UCC, we were told there were about 300 applications for 18 spots.

I see Duke University for Emergency Medicine. I think he graduated from UCD last year.

Did these guys that are in places like Hopkins for radiology do crazy stuff like get three PhDs in the USA or do a full residency in europe before coming to the US? Or did they just do a stellar job on boards, audition rotations, etc.?

I don't know about the three PhD's, but it is my understanding that programs ALWAYS prefer that you haven't done ANY residency abroad before you come to the USA for it so that they can give you all the training you need and so that you aren't stuck in your own ways.

Well of course he went to Queen's :D
It would be great if we can get him on this forum.

He actually has replied to some posts here on this forum  I'll let him come around and let it be known rather than I for confidentiality purposes.

Hell.oOOOOOOOO Pelvinator...

Yeah, always lurking if not active :)

I think the statics are about right. Peter from ABP said 1/5 are picked for the RCSI interview, and more the 50% are chosen after the interview, which is about 1/10. However, i dont think i will make it past the interview stage because i am very very very shy.:(

Just this year RCSI matched people into the following specialties:

Prelim surg, IM, Peds, OB/GYN, Neurology, Urology, Ortho, EM, and Radiology.

Within the last 3 years students have also matched into:

Family Medicine, Integrated Plastics, General Surgery as well as the above.

Anyone have matches for UCD,UCC or NUIG.
( I realize only 2 people matched for trinity)

RCSI has their own private alumni database on the web. If you are from RCSI, you can look up your classmates, and what residency they are in.

Thanks Trinners, that is the one. I stand corrected.

I believe it used to be private in their prior website iterations, which really is a better idea. Now one click easy to harvest those emails for spamming, more credit card applications in the regular post mailbox, etc. There isn't even a "type the number in the box to read the full address", it is right in the open for the spam bots.

When I was in residency, I specifically asked on day 1, that our email addresses to please not be put on the residency website. They delayed, and it ruined most of our email addresses with the overwhelming spam. They fixed it for future classes though.

Looking through the listing for RCSI grad year 2003, I like the doctor at the end who has the
"Speciality: Professional Comic Creator"
Rock on, might as well do what you like.

For a trivia note, Bioware (the video game creator of bestselling hits Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic) was founded and is run by two medical doctors in Canada who opted to do other things besides just medicine.
