Congrats to ALL that's done with the DAT! I'm planning to take it next summer, so i got some time to pull up my reading skills (I suck at reading).... Does anyone does if the articles on the test are all health-related? Where is a good source that I can find similar articles to practice reading?

I'm thinking about reading something everyday.... but not sure where is a good place to find these articles with similar levels in the DAT.

thanks a bunch!! 🙂

Try picking up an MCAT verbal book. Examkrackers publishes a good one with 101 practice passages.

The common ones people mention are New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, stuff along those lines.

I would say that if you have a whole year though to read some of these articles, but also try to kill two birds with one stone and use your textbooks as a good source of material.

If you are not the type to normally read your text then spend a lot of extra time this year reading to study for your classes.
If you read heavily already then you'll likely be in good shape for RC anyways.

I read articles from JAMA. I would read a paragraph, close the magazine, and try to summarize the paragraph in my head. I did it for every paragraph until I finished the article. I noticed that a lot of the times I would read the paragraph, but not really pay attention to what I read. I would read only 3 sentences, and when I would try to summarize it in my head, I'd draw a blank because I'm so use to passively reading. I practiced about an article a day. Eventually I got pretty good at reading and retaining information.

For the real DAT, I read the passage first, and then hit the questions. I'd go back to the passage to double check answers, but for the most part it was pretty easy to answer. Reading the passage first made it easy to look for details because you generally know where to find it in the paragraphs. Writing notes took up too much time for me, and also when I would write notes, I never even used them.

Oh yeah, I got a 21 on my RC.
