I used Kaplan for my MCAT prep and felt realy prepared. I'm about to start my M2 year and want to get a review book for Step 1 to use as I go along and saw Kaplan's home study course on their website. It looks to be complete and arranged by subject, which I'd like, but it's $449. Any thoughts? Has anyone used it? If not, what's a good book to start with?

Thanks!

Hey Jeff,

From what I've seen, Kaplan's materials are pretty good, but they're expensive. It's probably a better idea to buy board review books to go over during the year. For a good idea of what books to get, take a look at the thread at the top of this forum. I purchased most of my review books used, and I think I spent less than 200 dollars, not including Kaplan QBank.

I used the kaplan home study as my primary, and almost exclusive source for Step I, and did very well. I thought it covered most everything in ONE source which was important to me. Do a q-bank too, and I think you will be well prepared. PS you'll hear this over and over, but the best prep is study hard during year II.

I just got Kaplan USMLE review books from a friend who took the Step I back in 2001. I am going to be taking the Step I next year. Do you think that these review books are outdated or can I use them as my primary means of studying? Thanks
