Hi ppl...let me start saying that I s****k on the PAT section of the Dat. That said I had to come up with this strategy. For those of u who actually took the DAT please tell me what do u think,,,I have the test in 1 week. Ok I just don't get Top Front End questions....I can spend LITERALLY 5 minutes looking at one question and after all that time I MIGHT get it right...I've read tons of threads here and those have helped me, but as I said I'm terrible at this. So after a lot of practice exams I found out that those 10 mins doing TFE questions were a waste of time since I always got 40% right. So I decided that my chances of just guessing on those were equal or higher than actually going through all of them and wasting 10 mins. I'm pretty good at everything else....except on hole punching, but at least I always get 9, 10, or 11 on that section. After trying this method with the 10 Crack DAT PAT tests this is what I've got in order from TEST 1 to Test 10: 17/19/18/17/17/17/18/19/19/19.
I know, those scores are not high but at least I passed all of them. Honestly, that's all I want for this section,,,,a pass score. Please let me know how your scores in crack pat test varied from your scores in the actual test. I rather spend 60 minutes in 75 questions that I can really do good on, that wasting my time in 15 question that I know FOR SURE that my chances of guessing and working through those questions are the same or higher. BTW while guessing i just pick 2 letters let's say A & B and I just mark A in 7 questions and B in the rest 8...I've gotten even 60% on this section doing this method. Please let me know what u think...I know I'm crazy !!!!!:scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared:

1 week can make a huge difference, you know? When I first tried the TFE section, I didn't even know how to approach it, but after about 2 weeks I rarely missed any more questions on TFE. I don't recommend you to guess....it could seriously affect how the adcoms look at your DAT score. What I would recommend is to just complete all other 5 sections first, so that you don't freak out by the end of it. The best way for me is to create a 3D picture of the figure using just the 2 provided sides then eliminate answer choices to find the best fit. If you're not willing to practice, the best thing now is to use basic technique like the lines technique or at least eliminate figures that are out of proportion (3 unit width vs 2 unit in the original, you know what I mean), and just skip the hard ones. Best of luck : )

Thank you Starnova,,,,I've been practicing, but it is taking me sooo long to figure one question of TFE out that I've been running out of time before and had to guess on almost two entire sections that I know I can really do well on...I've been practicing and practicing my strategy and I always pass this section....I did dat bootcamp tests and got from 17-19...I think I will do exactly the same thing on my test cause the more time I can spend in questions I'm really good at,,,,I keep getting 100% on those so God help me on my test!!!

Hi, I was in the exact same situation with you. I hate the PAT and sucked at it. I am extremely slow with the PAT and the section that I score the least are usually TFE and Keyhole. My goal for this section is also 18 to 19. If you don't aim for a 20+ PAT, then I would say your strategy is pretty good. That's exactly what I did for mine as well. In stead of wasting time on TFE where I could get only half of it right and then have no time left to having to rush through hole punch, angles, cube counting, I did chose to skip TFE and just clicked random answers for it. I ended up with a 19 with I am extremely happy with.

Thanks God that our strategy works!!!! Yes I just want a 17, 18 or 19 in this section, honestly!!! I'll be more than happy with one of those scores!!!I've found out that if I spend 15 mins in Pattern folding and in cube counting I always get 100% on those , which boost my overall PAT score..... I'm glad this strategy work cause I don't even analize TFE I just mark as I said before 7 A's and 8 B's in a row and that's it.... hehehe I'm more confident now...Thank you!!!

Bootcamp PAT... Seriously it works

I was having a hard time getting the PAT section done just on the 2007 and 2009 ADA tests. I had 2 weeks left and found Ari had just released the bootcamp pat so I figured I would give it a shot.

From what I have read, it is harder than Crack DAT. It wouldn't surprise me because I couldn't finish any of the tests. I tend to take my time and overestimate how much time I can spend on a question.

Regardless, I took all the PAT tests and was averaging about an 18. Some tests I didn't even get through cube counting. I still went over all the parts I missed afterwards.

When I took the actual DAT, the PAT section was much easier than I expected. A couple keyholes threw me off and a few angles were damn impossible but I still finished with about 5 minutes to spare.

Ended up with a 22 PAT.

If you can afford it I highly recommend Bootcamp PAT

I did the same thing...I did cube counting first, then angles, then hole punching, then TFE and then pattern folding and I got a 19 as well.

I purchased Bootcamp and I agree is harder than CDP.....I keep getting on bootcamp 17-18 always....Hopefully I'll get the same score on the actual thing.....after all PAT is the least important section when the adcoms analyze our DAT scores!

For the actual test, you aren't able to immediately review every single section (a la DAT BootCamp). The big "Review" button only comes up after you finish the last question (this is applicable to every major section of the test).

For me, I kept clicking "Next" and skipped to the hole punching section (since those were easiest for me) and started the PAT from there. Once I reached #90, I reviewed the questions, then went back to Angle Discrimination, then Top/Front/Side, then Hole Placement (since your Review button is now permanently available).

Definitely work on the portion you think is easiest - spend the least amount of time on that so you can save time for other, more difficult sections.

I heard QR is the least important...however I really don't thing there is a least important section.

yes...it depends on the school tho,,,for some schools the least important is QR and for others is PAT.........

exactly. just depends on the school. Most of the time, it's either PAT or QR that is the least important.

Never seen a school put PAT as the least important, since usually (or so my PR book said) it reflects how a person does in dental school.

before applying to Columbia, I called and asked them about QR and PAT. They told me that they don't look at those that much. Which is weird because I thought Columbia was a "PAT" school just like UOP.

Interesting. No matter, not applying there 😛
