okay.. my interview at buffalo is tomorrow...

and I've heard that it's traditional one-on-one interview + group discussion on a topic + short writing essay..

does anyone know how it works? since my english is 2nd language, I guess i have little fear.....

what types of question they are going to answer during group discussion and writting essay? does anyone have any idea?

I had an invite for an interview during the waitlisting period. I think the point of the writing sample is just for them to examine that you can communicate well in English....the topic was not hard (mine had something to do about who was your favorite prof and why). It's not that bad. I would prepare just by reading up on how to write good essays and maybe practice writing about random topics in a short amount of time if you need.

Also, that time I did not have this case discussion. Does anyone know if this is in a group or more one-to-one with an adcom member?

I interviewed there last year and the interview was really similar to what has already been posted on the interview feedback forum. The questions were the usually why Buffalo, why do you want to be a dentist..etc. It was a pretty relaxed atmosphere for an interview.

Let me know how the group discussion goes and what it is like.

So how did it go at the Buffalo interview?
Anything you weren't expecting?
How was the group discussion?

I interviewed at Buffalo yesterday. It wasn't bad at all. Don't stress about the writing sample and the case discussion, they were easy. The interview was a traditional interview with 2 people asking questions. The questions were questions you would expect to be asked. Everyone was really nice there! Good luck!

So was the case discussion conducted in a group or one-on-one? ( If it was in a group did everyone get a chance to speak.?) Also is there a way to prepare for it or is the case discussion something general that is more of a common sense kinda of thing.

case discussion is one-on-one and you can't prepare for it. they give you a short scenario to read and then you discuss it, don't worry, it isnt bad.

So, it's one-on-one! 🙂

Btw, do you know if any other D-schools have group case discussion?

Ex) USC (Group or one-on-one???) and also other D-schools having PBL type interview...........😕

Wow thanks to all of you for the info. I've been wondering for a long time about the case discussion. 🙂 I hope you all did well at the interviews if you went!

hello people, my interview at buffalo is a day after tomorrow.

does any1 know or tell me what to expect for the case discussion and writing sample?

i am really nervous.. Thanks.

Writing sample is cake, and case discussion is cake. You don't really need to worry about those. It's pretty straight forward and easy to answer or discuss.

Writing sample just consist of writing about a topic that you probably will have a lot to talk about. Basically its to see if you know how to put words together correctly.

Case discussion is at most 10 minutes and its an easy topic to talk about. You read a paragraph of a specific case or scenario and then have a short discussion one on one with an adcom. Mine had to do with dental ethics.

The interview is the most nerve wrecking. You have two interviewers at once, but for me it wasn't too bad. Ask them ALOT of questions about the school and area, they only want people who really are serious about buffalo. If you get them to talk alot about their school, I think its a good sign. You definitely want it to be more of a conversation than an interview. If you are giving short answers and really have nothing to add on to the question, like some stories or what not, they will just keep looking at the list of questions and drill you with them. Your goal is to not let them do that and actually engage in conversation.

This is my opinion anyway... i think my interview went pretty well a couple weeks ago

The interview is really great, and I love the school. Interviewrs were way too nice in the school comparing to Columbia University. Professors look nice and tried to make sure u would be willing to move to Buffalo ^^ I love the school!😍

yeah, the interview was great, and I really liked the school and faculty members.
Dr. Brown also sent me an email after the interview saying it was their pleasure to interview me. Overall, interview made me really wanna go there.
