Any Tips?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
my advice:
1) keep your GPA above a 3.5
2) study your ass off for the DAT and score a 22+
3) proofread your personal statement (it's michigan and columbia, btw)
4) if you apply to the Dearborn's (same with Penn State's) d-school you will be very disapointed, so cross that one off your list
5) click the submit post button once instead of 3 times

if you practice this advice religiously, your chances of getting into d-school increase exponentially.

good luck:luck:
jb!🙂

17 and already in college? what did you do, graduate early?

i havent applied yet, but if i could do some things over it would mainly be.. MANAGING MY TIME MORE WISELY.

its key.

work hard. play hard.

get a lot of volunteer and shadowing experience starting now. shadow as many dentists as you can and try to get as much volunteer experience, not necessarily dental related 😉.

don't be a total bookworm b/c adcoms look for "well-rounded" people. you need to have good people skills to be a good dentist. keep your grades up as high as you can, take a good review course for the DAT, take fewer hrs. the semester you study for the DAT, and apply to realistic schools. do your research ahead of time so that you don't waste time, money and energy applying to schools you: A) have no chance of getting into, or B) wouldn't like even if you were accepted (ie. location, size of class, etc.). the year you apply, apply AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. plan to have ALL of your application materials together and completed (LOR's, DAT, personal statement, etc.) before mid-may of the year you apply.

finally, STAY AWAY FROM SDN 😉 :d

Why should I stay away from SDN?

I wish I had taken it more easily. I burnt myself and I feel like I am out of energy now. I am slowly shutting down and the timing for that couldn't be any worse right before dental school.
