Any UIC campus change requests honored yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I gotta know these things.

Anyone else in my boat? 😴

Just wondering who else will be at Urbana-Rockford track...? I don't know, I think rural area campus maybe better off for my budget.

A classmate of mine here at UIC will be in the Rockford track. The college of medicine is a block from the high school that I went to. Rockford really is quite good for primary care. The placement rate is actually better than Chicago in that area, but that is a little skewed because a good portion of their students do go into primary care. I've heard some people say that you get a great deal of patient contact right away--a lot of stuff that is mostly done only by residents in most other places..... don't really know if that is the whole truth

Sorry to keep doin this, but...

I wanna know...oh oh whaoh

OK, I'm back. So I was looking over the curriculum at Urbana and did I get this right? 11-12 classes per semester? I know they went over this during the interview but my short term memory seems to have failed to convert info into long-term.

Now that I am officially in a panic, is anyone planning on taking the proficiency exam? I won't be taking any because I won't pass those - seems that I will be taking all that is offered in each semester. Anyone else on the same boat?

Are you in the Rockford track or straight Urbana?

Hey fellow classmates,
I wouldn't stress too much about taking all those classes. I am sure it will be reasonable. Since you are juggling many classes at once you will move at a slower pace than people who have only one class during a 1 month period. This is my assumption, but correct me if I am wrong.... Also the placement tests are for people who have phds in the different areas or pharmacist. I don't think they apply to undergrads going straight to med school.

I'm worried about the curriculi as well. it seems like an impossible amount of coursework at the same time. Are the topics integrated? Or do you just sit in on lecture for 8 hrs a day?

I'm in the Rockford track. Today I have a twist in my decision-making scheme though. I just got accepted at Drexel! It's 30-40 min away from where I live so needless to say that my moving stress can come down. Any advises?

Oh yeah, me freaking out about curriculi still holds strong.

Hi,
I just recently withdrew my acceptance/application from the UI Chicago campus. I hope this opens up a spot for one of you all soon.
Good luck!

Thanx a bunch. I think I am about the only one on here who cares though 😉

This just isn't a very popular thread.

Keep your fingers crossed that I get your spot  :luck:

A friend of mine here at UIC just got his site change to Chicago. He had a good GPA and a 38 on the MCAT. The rest of his application was pretty weak and his reason for the site transfer was alright--definitely not excellent. It's kind of frustrating, because they say that the reason for site transfer is the most important, and I have a feeling that is is just stats and maybe reseach--the friend of mine only had one semester of meaningless research.

The one catch is that he was in the guaranteed program here.... I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

Although I always wanted to live in a rural midwest for a few years (don't laugh... citygal here, always lived in major cities/metro area - LA, NYC, Phila), I am thinking that I will take Drexel over Rockford. My family is in NY, and residency match result and reputation between the two schools are somewhat similiar, and since I live in Philly suburb right now Drexel would reduce moving stress significantly. I'd still have to move but not across the continent... Too bad cuz I would have liked UI people based on what I see on SDN...

How did your friend get the news? By phone, email, letter...?

Dr. Girotti's secratary called him. She asked him if he had made any other commitments and if UIC was still his first choice and then told him that his site transfer request had been granted.

I know that Dr. Girotti is one of the people on the commitee that reviews site tranfer requests, but I don't know if it will be him (or his secretary) necessarily that calls people. This might be the case for my friend because Dr. Girotti is one of the supervisors of the ba/md program here.

Good luck

What was his reason? Research? Family?
