VCU teaches everything but Biochem. The majority of the Class of 2017 took the boards in the summer after D1 and did fine. We're required to purchase a $2K laptop from Dell which in my honest opinion has been a nightmare with the number of examination software hiccups we've had, the number of times we've had to go to the IT department to fix some random problem often resulting in the IT wiping out your entire computer, and numerous screen covers falling apart. These computers are typical Dell quality. You can use whatever computer you'd like in class but you have to use these Dell computers for the clinic and some exams. Lectures can be recorded but some course directors choose not to record lectures. All I can really say about VCU is that it's relatively affordable for in-state residents, has a homely environment, and has a strong clinical curriculum. The courses taught by the medical school faculty are top notch. Some courses taught by the dental school faculty leave room for noticeable improvement. I won't say too much about my critical opinions because if I'm the only VCU student who posts on this forum, my one post may skew the overall opinion about VCU in this forum.
