Any way to not be blacklisted by accepting and reneging an offer

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So you signed an offer with a company, want to end that offer to take a better opportunity, but want to make sure you can go back to said company just in case. You can't always have your cake and eat it too. However, I highly doubt they have a database of everyone that has screwed them over. It is more likely that the recruiter who signed you will not work with you for the next few years, after that they will probably forget.

unfortunately the corporations do have a blacklist. Not sure if this situation would qualify.

a big chain involved. Don’t want to burn bridges with it.
If it is CVS, they will not take it personal. So many pharmacist say yes to an offer just to have something to fall back on. No one blacklist you for an offer. You can always give some excuse to make them feel better. But business is business

i thought the chains always maintain a do not hire/rehire list? I am pretty sure I have heard of it somewhere

They do, but it's for how you leave the company while working there. Did you quit with notice or storm out? Were you fired? Those types of things..

The DM and recruiter will remember you forever. You won't be able to go back until they are gone. Or, you can apply to a different area, not in their region. So, expect to be blacklisted for 5-25 yrs for that area. There are career DMs out there.

Don’t mind that but almost positive there will be company wide black listings at the company national level.

every company does - but you pretty much (at least from what I know) you have to be fired to get on it - I know at our hospital if someone is on the verge of being fired and we "like them" - meaning - they are getting let go for something like too many call outs vs stealing narcs - we give them the opportunity to resign so when future potential employers call - all we can say is "they are eligible for rehire". As far as working that same recruiter again, you might have to wait until they move on, or apply for a different district.

I was referring to pre start date black listing at the level of application tracking software, that is some one accepted an offer than reneged before start date. Don’t know what hr policy could be in this matter at hca

My question was in reference to the hospital world

Can't speak for CVS but Walgreens has flagged people's HR/app profile

I know someone who left Walgreens after a few months as pharmacist (after working as an intern) for I think CVS then returned and was gone <1 month later. I doubt he was blacklisted after the first time, even with the same DM.

I really think a good part of it comes down to "Don't burn bridges."

If you're handling things in a professional manner, even leaving a company or declining / backing out of an offer, everything will be fine. If you call them up that first day you were supposed to show up for that job to back out? Different story.
