The volunteering I do at one of my hospitals is in the GI lab section where I make beds, take patients down in wheelchairs to discharge area, and do cleaning of the area basically stay at that section whole time. Other section I volunteer in medical oncology section where I provide patients with food and small snacks. Get nurses attentions when a patient needs them. And clean up there area after they leave. You think hospital escort job is good or bad for clinical exposure??? Thanks for the help ya will try to use my volunteering to get a position.

Just be cool about it--not overbearing. Do well, be kind and positive, but don't hyperblast it everywhere. Some will be good with it, and others maybe not. Social dynamics is something you have to quietly evaluate it in the particular culture/groups.

Gap year [/gap/ - /yir/], n.
1. An academic season that happens after the last semester as a senior; traditionally for application-building via taking extra classes or by choosing to retake the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). An applicant would be applying during this year starting in June so that they can continue to bolster experiences, work, etc.

Traditionally, an applicant would apply right after their junior year, so that the application season would run concurrently with their senior year.

Example:

Mary: Hey, Cheryl. Aren't you trying to go to medical school? Why haven't you told us about any interviews?
Cheryl: I'm taking a gap year! I'm applying after I graduate so I can find work.

:prof:

Ok thanks for letting me know!

If I don't get into medical school, I'm going to become a social worker. I want to go into medicine to help people. There are a million more ways to do this.

Many people go to medical school for different reasons. If you don't get in, apply again. If you don't get in that time, figure out what else will fulfill you in life. Do that.

Also comparing medical school to getting women - I'm gonna pretend you didn't just say that and go against my feminist leanings and suggest you read The Game. It's a ridiculous book by a man who is so out of everyone's league yet somehow manages to pick up lots of hot women and make a ton of money writing about it.

Maybe read that book, get a hot girlfriend, then get the confidence you seem to need that will enable you to get into medical school.

Of course, for the love of all things pure, do NOT use these techniques on your female adcom interviewers. Or do. It might help you get in....

Meh, there's a million awesome things to do in this world. The idea of not getting into medical school never bothered me in the slightest. It would have just been an excuse to do something completely different and also awesome. I'd probably be a partner at my friend's brewery right now, or something else that would've just been a great time. And I'd have had the added bonus of not studying my life away and working my ass off for the next seven years.

The problem with lot of people who pursue this medicine route feel that no other careers are as lucrative and prestigious as medicine and thus if medicine doesn't work out they will end up doing something not as prestigious and lucrative and feel dissatisfied and bad. Almost like other careers are not as high up there with medicine.

Medicine isn't nearly as prestigious as most people believe, nor is it as lucrative.

Basically, the problem is all in their heads, and if they're going to drive themselves crazy over it, they've deservedly made their own hell by being so narcissistic and arrogant as to believe that only medicine is a career befitting of them.

and the thinking that one doesnt have what it takes for medicine and one is not good enough for a career prestigious and lucrative as medicine and thus having to settle for a career that is not as prestigious or lucrative as medicine can have potential to make one feel like ****.

And as mentioned earlier with my situation still have to take and do solid in all pre reqs I still have yet to take and if I'm unable to do well In them or can't pass em than my med school dreams may be over but it all depends on me and if I can pass all of them and do good enough in them. I'm sure that I am more than capable of doing well in all those.

There are many ways to be of service.
Medicine is but one.
If you find a way to be useful, you will find it rewarding (whatever it may be).

. True just some common thinking with those who pursue medical route

Considering my circumstances of how I withdrew from bio 1 freshman 1st and 2nd semester plus labs and orgo 1. Should I take the chances of taking bio 1 and orgo 1 both my fall of junior year??? If I withdraw fr both at that time than idk. Or would it be smart to not take any science classes and take other classes for now and to end of final year and do some post bacc than SMP or masters and apply or do post bacc and apply?

I've been rejected by plenty of girls. They kept telling they had something called a "boyfriend." Well, let me be your "MANfriend"
