Anybody here driving electric?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know there’s some Tesla guys here. Any others?

Happy with it?
In a state with discounts for leases (check, you might be surprised) it's crazy how cheap they have gotten. My parents lease an electric vehicle for 60 dollars a month, 0 down. Yes, you read that right. Less than an iphone with data lol. They also get paid by the utility company for owning an electric car, something like 250 bucks but hey, it's free money.

It seems like a bit much to me, but at the same time it will be good for our country to use less of the oil we make purely from an economic standpoint. Using more electricity will also spur new energy additions to the grid, and the cost for new solar/wind is below new gas/coal, it's just not always below the cost of shutting down an existing plant. So paradoxically more energy use will clean up the grid overall.

If anyone is curious about the environmental impact there's a good post here: New Data Show Electric Vehicles Continue to Get Cleaner that tells you the mpg equivalent by state. At this point most of the country is more efficient/green to go electric, but there are a couple laggards left. I expect in 5 years the whole country will be >50 mpg, maybe >60 mpg equivalent.

My parents are very satisfied with their electric car. Anyone looking to buy might be better off waiting for the new 2019 leaf if they want a smaller cheaper car that still goes 200 miles. Otherwise a friend bought a model 3 and has been having a blast. Check out PlugShare - Find Electric Vehicle Charging Locations Near You to see how the charging network looks where you are. At this point it's mostly an issue for northern midwest and maybe southern texas trying to drive west.

Model S and Model X (7 seater) over here. Once you go electric it’s hard going back. I still keep a gas guzzler suv for long distance traveling and or when the in laws are in town and they choose to not rent a car.

I plan on probably getting one more ICE car prior to electric. I want the charginf network to improve more prior to committing. Would consider hybrid or plug in hybrid though.

Model S for 2.5+ years.
Very happy: zero maintenance cost over that time frame and no problems to report.
I don't see myself going back to a petrol engine.
