Hey y'all,
Does anyone know anything about WashU's radiology program? I know it's a highly ranked program, but do the residents seem to like it, is it a malignant environment, etc? Also, I just started 3rd year, but would honors in preclin and a 256 on step 1 be competitive there? Thanks,

rg

Theirs is not just a department, but a whole darned institute: the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (referred to here and elsewhere as MIR; their website is at http://www.mir.wustl.edu/).

It's a very competitive residency program, considered one of the very top programs in the country.

Your Step 1 score is a very good score, and that would help your application. But people don't get a spot at MIR (or at any other competitive residency program) based on a good Step 1 score (and preclinical grades don't really enter into it). Programs also want to see honors in core clerkships, research (especially for academic programs like MIR), and great LORs. It also helps if you have some interesting "extra" to offer.

Is there a reason you're so interested in that particular program? Radiology is so competitive right now that even very strong applicants have to be willing to apply quite broadly and accept that there are no guarantees.

Good luck.
