this is the kind of stuff that gets thrown at you once you start school. i remember walking out of a financial aid presentation during orientation with a look of shock on my face. and that look of shock only grew later after taking our Health Care Management class. seriously, though . . . healthcare in this country (and elsewhere) is a crazy system.

So how much did Atul ask for? Is Atul totally complacent, or is he going to do something about health care? Why didn't Atul talk about Military physicians?
I suppose Atul is for health insurance. It makes sense if one doesn't have a lot of money.
I wonder if that millionaire general surgeon had health insurance?

Does it? Why? It is because Doctors and Hospitals choose to charge an exorbitant amount of money.

People without health insurance coverage often end up paying more for hospital costs. There was a great article about in the Wall Street Journal several months ago. I think it was sometime during the summer of 2004. I think they said health insurance companies negotiate a price for medication, procedures, and equipment (bandages, etc.) used in treating someone during a hospital stay. People without insurance were charged more for the same stuff that people with health insurance received while hospitalized.

This is true. I am a department manager for a large dental benefits company and we typically contract with providers for at least a 30% discount from UCR. Some of our plans are discount only, as in, members pay us to access services from our providers at our contracted rates.
