Hi there!
This is my first thread but noticed that this is a great resource and am quite excited to be a member!
I am applying to optometry this year and have submitted all my applications around the opening date (give or take a few days). I have to say that I have been impressed with all the schools except for NECO. First of all, there system was down for a week when the admissions started...delaying everything and annoying those who actually had everything prepared for the opening date. I understand that these things happen but really they have from the time the admission cycle closes until sept to get things all together. Also, I have been waiting for at least 2.5 months and have not heard anything from them! I realize that some of you have heard from them and have even interviewed and been accepted...congrats to you by the way🙂, but it would just be a polite thing to hear from a school that might be taking thousands of $$ off u. Now I read that they only interview the best first and put the weaker applicants in a different pile to be sorted out at a later date. If this is the case why do they practice "ROLLING ADMISSIONS"! . I thought those who had there stuff in early had a better chance. I have noticed that many others on here haven't heard anything from them either. Also, limiting the amount of interview dates is also something they need to work on. Is anyone else out there feeling like this? NECO is supposed to be a good school and so far has not impressed me at all. In fact, other schools that I have interviewed at have mentioned that NECO is the slowest school. One even said that it has a bad reputation for not corresponding with potential students and they keep stringing them along right until the very end.....
If anyone can shed some light on this please do.....

If they ever offer you an interview I hope you turn it down. None of the future students will want someone as a classmate who can do nothing but complain about the school. First, rolling admissions does not mean that they flat-out accept or reject people in the order they applied. It means that they accept candidates during the admissions cycle until the class is full. Like you said, many people have applied, had an interview, and been accepted. I am one of those people, and I had no problem communicating with the school. The reason you have not heard from them is that you are likely a weak candidate. Applying early does give you an advantage, but just because you apply early does not mean you will be offered an interview or admission. Would you rather they reject you now, or would you rather wait and see if they give you a chance later?

You probably haven't heard back from them because you probably aren't getting an interview there. They don't have to call you and reject you. Sometimes you just won't hear back from them.

And I think it is ok to complain about schools. Not a big deal.

I say this to all applicants who message me personally and to those who I meet at their interview day: If you don't hear anything then it is a good thing because if you hear something it is either yay or nay. Not hearing anything means that their is still hope. If you are really anxious about your application I would suggest phoning the office. They recently hired a new administrative assistant that will be more organized with regards to answering students concerns.

It is true that the rolling application system should favor those who are quick to get their application ready early however there have been an increase in quality applications to NECO which makes the process a lot more competitive. It should also be pointed out that the application/admissions process is important but is not reflective of the quality and type of education you will be receiving. If NECO is the right fit for you then the application process is a minor detail that is uniform across the board for all of those who are applying to the school.

I hope that you find happiness in your pursuit of a career and that you find the school that is best suited for you.

I know NECO opened their online applications a little later but when you think about those who don't run on rolling admissions like Waterloo- who do it in Nov/Dec, or others like UdM who do it in February then you would be happy. Ok- you could say you're not canadian and not care- but I don't see why you would not be happy with more time to look over your application 🙂

And I think if you are really unhappy with them then just don't go to an interview and go to another school but if you really think you want to go to NECO then its worth the wait. Go to the interview and impress them so much that they will give you a response asap with a fed-ex letter of acceptance like some.

I am waiting too. It is ok to wait- doesn't make me nervous...... if its meant to be then its meant to be, if not then all you can do is write to them, call them, talk to students there and apply next year or go to another school if NECO isn't the only school you want to attend🙂

Good luck!!!

btw if you went to NECO you would love it!! They have a mansion for a school hehehe🙂 AND you will be impressed with all the clinics that they are going to send you out to in all settings that you could ever imagine in optometry!!!

Hello!

In response to the first post, I applied to NECO before October but then my file wasn't complete until about 1.5 weeks ago bc I had to wait for my undergrad college to send my transcript (which they sent late--totally their fault too!) but I as well have NOT HEARD ANYTHING from them. I emailed them about the status of my app and since they didn't respond after a week, I called them the other day to check on the status of my app and they said it was being reviewed.

So yeah, who knows what's going on there. :/
