Just wonder "Here" means HK/S'pore or Aus. I don't think HK/S'pore will accept anyone with VERY low scores. If so, it should be a good news for me. HAHAHA......Hopefully I'll meet you up on the interview/test day, based on my imagination for the name JODIE.

Alternatively, you can try IMU in Malaysia, which offers transfer to many reputable medschools, eg Melbourne, UNSW, Adelaide, Edinburgh, Glasgow.... I want to study there as well, but it's too costly for a middle-income Malaysian .

here means in australia

In australia it is based on medical entrance test and not how strong u r in the academics. the cut of academic score is very low even a guy with 94 uai will get into some unis. and in some just 92 uai is enough to get into. it is a matter of luck.

how was everyones interview (and essay) ?? im most likely OUT.:meanie:

HAHA, yeah right. Something fishy here...

What you said is only true of Adelaide and maybe Tasmania. For Melbourne, it's purely based on academic marks; even UMAT can be waived and there's no interview required (both locals and internationals). In my class, there are lots and lots of students with 99.9; anything below 98 is a bit 👎

If you really are that strong academically, you'd have got into Melbourne without a doubt.

Besides, the American SAT is probably the easiest of all pre-U exams.

The order, from hardest to easiest, is something like this:

HK A-level > UK A-level or STPM > OSSD (Canada) > SAT (USA)

i have gone through u r comments. melbourne with 99.9 is a fraction of students i.e. 25%. UMAT is not waived for u r informatin. it goes by combination of marks with umat. people with 96 got into melbourne. are u sure how the umat system works. that is the crapiest exam and not followed systematically. random entrance test i can say and not organized. how many people have complained about the test. other than that every uni unsw, uws, uwa and what not every thing goes by crap. even ask the people who got into the medicine how crap the umat is. purely luck business. specially second part. there is no fishy business here what i say is fact

i got 99.55 just missed by 0.35, that u can say 4 marks. since we have the class marks that counts, purely based on the class teacher, that has affected me. not the main exam where i got high marks. so think about that.

If things haven't changed, there're 3 categories of entry; one of the categories is for high achievers (e.g. 99.9) and their UMAT results are not considered (waived). I'm currently studying med at melb uni that's how I know. Just would like to clarify things up since I think your comments don't do the Australian schools justice.

Talking about luck, med school entry is a game of luck almost anywhere in the world. Getting in HKU is also a game of luck. Who can decide whether a high school student with AAAA or a Harvard graduate with a mere 3.5 GPA, or someone with a masters degree should get in? It's entirely subjective.

You said "many people with very low scores got into medicine here (Australia)"; this is totally unfounded. I do take offence when I see such ignorant comment. Have you even been to Australia? I don't see any, and certainly not "many", med students here, at least not in my course at my uni, who perform poorly academically.

pls check the undergraduat selection criteria in uni of mel website. there it needs umat. i have enough umat score for the high aciveres category. but my uai is less as what i mentioned earlier. further there is 50% marks from the school class teacher. so if u r in good books u have every chance to get more marks from the school.to make a good uai. choosing the subjects will also affect. some one who took the MT as a subject will score more. for medicine u study any crap subjects and still u r eligible as long as one chemistry is there.

for u r informaiton i am a local candidate

many means in reference to my uai

Off the top of my head, Australian med schools have produced at least 6 Nobel prize winners in medicine; there could me more but I'm too lazy to check. NUS and HKU have never produced a single Nobel prize winner in their history spanning over a hundred years.

nuff said.

i am referring to the current selection criteria. not concerned about the noble prizes

you may not be concerned; there are others who will be. nobody cares about what u personally think. wat u posted sounds like expression of sour grapes; putting down and bashing aussie schools when you get rejected.

Haha...:luck:

How was the interview/test?

I wonder if I met anyone of you that day. I was a big-sized Chinese from Malaysia (too many Malaysians there though)

I've no idea whether there's a quata for international students. I heard it's about 30%. Most probably it's way too high. 🙄

wgy589

we have to wait for the result. i saw many malaysians. i think u should have written better as u might have better understanidng of the singhealth. any way i have tried my level best and has to wait for it

ha ha sour grapes. r u local or international. i can make comment if u r local

Bleh... didn't get pass shortlisting. :meanie:O wellz, just curious, what did they ask for the essay?

Eventhough I got shprtlisted, but my chances are very (see the word? VERY) slim.

Essay question for international students on 2 May was....

Should medical subsidy be given to the people who ignore healthcare warning?

Just curious, anyone of you get shortlisted for the Medicine Interview, were called for scholarship interview. In my case, it's ASEAN Scholarship, cos I'm a Malaysian.

i think i am not eligible for that scholarship. is there any other scholarships from singapore for australians

Just check from the site. http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/assist/

In my opinion, those who got shortlisted for medicine would have at least AAA in A-Levels, which means you're eligible for scholarship.

Maybe different scholarships would have different interview dates.

Anyone knows how many international students being shortlisted this year for NUS Medicine (I heard abt 100), and how many would be admitted (I heard 20)?

the dead line has passed for financial aid application. i was under the impression that i have to apply after the selection. any way i will think if i get the admission. it looks to me very hard to get in nus i.e.5:1. it seems chances are remote to get admitted as the competiton is severe

when can we expect the results of nus interview - for international students

End of this month! I never expect much from it.

Jodie, are you a boy? Chinese?

Hi everyone!

I was just wondering if it's true that the news will come out by this Wednesday? Has anyone gotten acceptance offer?

ridwan: how did you know that it will be out by this Wednesday?

As far as I know, there are candidates who had received the rejection letter.

Actually, I have been waiting for mine too 🙁. But still pinning on the little hope that is still there.

Rejection Letter? Hard copy or email?

I thought rejected candidates will be given another course, eg pharmacy, science...

I assume the rejection letter is for medicine interview, which means they're rejected from interview, not admission.

However, my heart is now beating like a runaway horse now, soooo nervous waiting for the result..

i asked this lady who was writing our names down. she said in two weeks.😱

neway hav u guys applied to any other departments in nus?

That should be just a rough estimation.

What I'm curious/worried abt is the rejection letter.

wgy: the letter was snail-mailed. it's rejection for the admission. don't worry too much man. what will come, will come. we have done our best 🙂

ridwan: life science was my second choice. how bout you?

anybody have any news from med yet?

me: 1. Medicine
2. Pharmacy
3. Life Science (wasnt it only Science?)
4. Bioengineering
if i dont get medicine (!), then wud go with life science. pharmacy has too much chemistry !!!!

back here in spore, students are saying that it'll be out this friday/sat. which wouuld also traditionally be the time when NUS has always released the names of the medical class matriculating tt year.

=)
