Hi, did anyone apply for fall last minute and heard from them yet? Also, my GPA was a 2.67 undergrad but everything I've done since has been pretty impressive. What are my chances to get into that program? Any opinions? I feel like if I can just get in there I have a chance at breaking thru the 3.0 barrier. Also, if I don't get in, I saw someone had recommended appealing the decision (begging essentially) and that they'll let you in. Does anyone know about this?

Hi,
I applied mid-May and just got my acceptance last week. My understanding (though someone else probably knows a lot more) is that Columbia uses the 3.0 GPA minimum as a cut-off partly because spending a year in the program and acing everything would still leave your cumulative number pretty low for med school admissions. I know there are other ways to go about raising your gpa, but I think it's a pretty long and difficult process.

Keep in mind too that while you might be able to cross the 3.0 barrier with a year or so of work, you really need to be up in the 3.4-3.5 range to be "competitive." I'm sure there are some crazy stories out there of people mitigating their GPAs with exceptional MCATs, but I don't think it's terribly common.

It's great if you can find a way in, but keep in mind that Columbia's expensive and won't necessarily buy you a med school acceptance; your numbers will speak louder than your programs.

Hope this helps and that someone with a little more knowledge weighs in as well. Good luck to you!

I overnighted the application on 6/14 and heard back about a week later.

does anyone have a link to this? I thought columbias program was only for students without any pre-med coursework.

It is only for students without pre-med coursework. I was talking about his cumulative undergrad gpa. Med schools will consider your science gpa primarily, but good cumulative numbers are also necessary.
