Anyone applying from UC Berkeley to MSTP or MD/PhD for 2005?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Which schools are you applying to?

(I am done with med school already but I am just curious)

hey, I thought berkeley didn't have an MSTP- I know they're not affiliated with UCSF. Am I missing something? 😕

I assume the op is looking for applciants applying to MSTPs while at UC Berkeley undergrad.

Yes, that's indeed what I was asking. Sorry if there was a confusion about that. 😀

Which year did you graduate? Which schools are you applying to? Where are you in the application process.

Good luck,

Go Bears!!! 👍

I have one semester left (this fall). I am applying to a bunch of schools: all the big MSTP ones with bioeng programs. I have at least 10 secondaries that I have to start on!

Could you answer all these questions for me too?

I graduated in 2003 from MCB/ Biochem, and I'm also applying to about 20 MSTP programs all over the country.

It's interesting because it looks as if in general people who apply to MSTPs apply to less schools than those applying to regular MDs, eventhough the number game seems much worse. Do you know why?

Good luck :luck:

Well, I don't think that most people (MD or MdPhD) apply to more than 20 schools.

From other MSTP research I looked at and people I talked to, I think that fewer people apply to MSTP programs. In terms of rough numbers, I read somewhere that about 800 people apply to MSTP programs. Half of those are serious candidates. There are roughly the same number of spots as serious candidates. The top people get into a lot of places, so in the end, there is a lot of shuffling. Unless something majorly sucky happens, one should expect to get in somewhere. I would like to hear Neuronix's opinion on this.

If you are still in Berkeley, and want to work on some secondaries sometime, PM me.

I am still in berkeley, I actually work there. But I just submitted my AMCAS today, so I don't have my secondaries yet. But I'm planning to work on them based on the questions posted on the site. So if that's cool with you, we can work on them together.

Oh, so which secondaries have you already got? And when did you submit your AMCAS?

I submitted mid June and have 13 secondaries to work on right now!
