Some MD/PhD programs mention that if an applicant is rejected from the MD/PhD program, they can still be considered for the MD-only program. Do you think my chances of acceptance are higher if I apply to the MD/PhD program with MD fallback compared to applying solely to the MD program?

Average stats for MD/PhD matriculants are higher than for MD only matriculants. Hence, if you don’t want to do a PhD, I recommend you do not apply to MD/PhD.

I’m not sure your statement about the stats is true. The difference is more a solid history of research pursuit and recommendations from investigators you have worked with.

Average of 517.6 MCAT and 3.87 cGPA are higher than pure MD.

I applied to 28 MD-PhD programs and 3 MD only programs.

I think my stats are competitive for both. 3.7 GPA, 524 MCAT. But I have very strong research exp (20+pubs) that I think makes me more appealing to md/phd programs.

My question is just about the chances of acceptance. Are my chances of acceptance higher if I apply to the MD/PhD program with MD fallback compared to applying solely to the MD program?
