Anyone applying to Ohio State university

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got an email today from OSU inviting me to visit the program.

It also said one of three things will happen: 1. I'll be accepted in the next few days; 2. I will be accepted in January; or 3. I will be placed on a wait list in January. And it said they used the whole wait list last year, so even getting this email means I have a good chance of being accepted.

Congrats, you mind sharing your stats? For example overall GPA,Pre-Req GPA, GRE scores, how many observational hours and what university did you attend just curious. I would like every question answered it would put things in perspective. Good luck getting accepted and please answer those questions it would help a lot, also did you apply early decision or just normal.
Thanks

I applied and still haven't heard back. 3.8 GPA, 285 hours, GRE scores were a bit below the average at OSU. Is not hearing back from a school usually just there way of rejecting you?

When did you apply and what university did u attend, also pre req GPA?

Don't remember when I applied. I didn't do early admission. Regular deadline was Oct 1. I go to WVU. 3.73 pre-req GPA

they barely accept out of state for one, plus your pre req GPA should be higher if you even want a chance to be accepted coming out of state. You might be accepted but highly likely unless you went to a TOP university and WVU just isn't.Sorry to say

Yup. You're right. Thought I'd just give it a shot though.

I also got the email sent from OSU last Friday. Has anyone received a decision yet?

Watson27, congratulations! I haven't received any email from them yet :-(

I actually just received an email from them saying that they will wait to see my grades from this fall semester to make a decision. Hopefully my GPA can help me quite a bit but I have a feeling it won't since I'm out of state and my GPA is exactly what the average is there.

compared to Watson, I've got you beat on overall, math and science, and pre req GPA, but you got me beat on total hours and GRE. We'll see what happens.

Congrats, how did you study for your GRE? What tools did you use? I still need to take it and how much time did you put into it, it would help me get a better understanding. Also the average GPA for OSU is a 3.8 and you had a 3.6 your GRE scores must have impressed them 160 is very high in my opinion

Yeah, I didn't know what to expect because of my low GPAs, but OSU heavily weights recommendations since they don't do interviews, and I know my LORs were out of this world. I have amazing relationships with my recommenders, all of whom are fairly influential in the PT research world. I also know that the rest of my application worked in my favor. I won't give details for the sake of anonymity, but I have some very unique extra-curriculars that set me apart.

@OSUkid As far as GRE study tools, I used Barron's GRE book, Kaplan's GRE book, Clif Notes for GRE Math, Barron's 500 Essential GRE Words app, and Magoosh's GMAT Math app. I studied my ass off for the quantitative section. Math is not my strong suit. I did all the practice exercises and practice tests in the three books I used, and used the Magoosh GMAT app on the go. For the month leading up to the test, I studied at least 30-40 minutes a day. I would suggests taking a practice test before you study at all to identify weak areas and focus on those. Kaplan's book comes with 5 online practice tests and tons of other individual sections. It will score it for you and identify patterns of what types of questions you missed, which was helpful.

Do you put your extra circulars in the OSU supplemental thing? I havent applied so I do not know how that would work I will be in two years and would like to be prepared. Also you have got me curious on your very unique extra-curriculars, if you do not mind can you pm me some or just one because I would like to have the best chance of getting in. Also thanks for sharing the GRE tools you used I am going to look into them.

I got the same email. I missing a prerequisite, so I'm guessing they want to see what I get in that class. does this email mean that we are no matter what going to get wait listed or accepted. The open house email said if you get wait listed then there is still a good chance you will get in because almost the entire wait list was accepted last year.

The acceptance email said they will recalculate everyone's standing once fall grades are factored in. So if your GPA goes up it's definitely possible that your chances of acceptance will increase. And accepted applicants have three choices: accept offer, decline, or wait and put your name back in the pool for the second round of decisions. The last option make mean they take away their offer and put you on the wait list. Which I find interesting. I do not know of any other schools that do that.

And to out-of-staters: don't get disheartened! OSU says they are accepting more and more out-of-staters every year! I know they are making a big push to have a more diverse class, and I don't think they necessarily give preference to Ohio applicants, but it's just because there are so many more from Ohio.

And I do think it means that at this point, they won't reject you. Which is how a lot of schools are with their interviews.

Just an update: I declined OSU's offer of admission. Hopefully this opens up a spot for someone else!

Also, after attending their open house, I can clarify that they do not give preference to in-state students. Out-of-staters are not at a disadvantage. The reason why their final class roster contains such a low number of OOS students is due to cost. They accept plenty of OOS students, but those students choose to go elsewhere (cheaper schools ). Basically what that says to me is that most of the people getting in to OSU do not think it is worth the out-of-state cost. Most of the accepted applicants I met at the open house were actually not from Ohio.

So what school are you going to? You do live in Ohio according to your previous post you completed your undergrad at Cincinnati. Also why did you decline?
