So I was about to write my statement when I realized I'm not sure what they are asking for. I tried to call but they are "out of office".

I assume that everyone applying there have already written their statements, so I thought I would ask you guys...

Do they want us to simply answer the 3-4 questions listed on the website, or do they expect a whole statement that includes answers to those questions?

In other words, how different is it going to be from the "typical" statement of purpose?

Thank a lot!!

By the way, I'm talking about their PsyD program.

i just wrote a typical personal statement, nothing out of the ordinary. who i am, what i did and why i want to go to rutgers. the deadline is pretty soon, and i imagine that no one will be back before that.
good luck

I wrote a full SOP for Rutgers, similar to the ones I wrote for the other programs. I just made sure I answered their questions in the SOP.

The Rutgers app actually annoyed me to no end, since they wouldn't send out the letters of recc requests out until I submitted the app. That meant I had to complete it first, when I otherwise would have waited another couple of weeks to polish the SOP a bit more.

Good luck!

All of the applications annoy me, some more than others 🙂

Thanks guys, and best of luck to you too.

Hi! I'm also applying to the Rutgers PsyD (clinical; I imagine you're doing this too?) I don't see what you mean about specific essay questions on the website. There's nothing on http://gsappweb.rutgers.edu/pstudents/admissions.php and the online application itself only instructs, "Please cut and paste the text of your personal statement from an existing document or type it into the space below."

Where did you see specific personal statement instructions???

Thank you! **Please PM me!**

To NYCPsych and anyone else who hasn't see the specific requirements:

Go to that link:
http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu/supporting.shtml#personal

and you'll find the following:

Personal statement: If applying online, a personal statement may be electronically transmitted. Most programs (exceptions are listed below) require a personal statement of approximately 500 words about plans for graduate study and a professional career. Include areas of study, research, or practice that are of special interest. Exceptions include:
  • Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (Psy.D). Explain the career choice of professional psychology and indicate why clinical, organizational, or school psychology has been chosen. Limit the essay to four double-spaced pages. Full-time applicants should indicate plans for supporting themselves. Part-time applicants should describe work-release plans that would enable them to spend two days per week at the school. List specific courses suggested as prerequisites that have been completed. Provide school name, course titles, date, undergraduate or graduate level, and grades received. Advanced-level applicants should list courses taken that cover the material offered in the school's first-year curriculum.
I hope it's not too late for anyone.
Good luck!
