Just curious- anyone applying to UCSD? I'm getting my application materials ready and hopefully I can send everything off by the end of this month.

I'm planning on it. I'm really struggling with the secondary application; specifically, the essay. Every time I sit down to write it, I don't get anything down.

Do you know if they use rolling admissions? I think they don't, so I'm probably going to put the application off until I get everything else done. From what I understand, they don't look at any applications until after the November 1 deadline. Please correct me if I'm wrong!!

I was going to apply but I really feel that I have zero chance of getting in. Their avg GPA is so freaking high!

Do you guys think I should even bother applying?

Cum GPA - 3.45
Science GPA - 3.17

Winter 2006 GPA (3.84), Spring Quarter GPA (3.65), Summer Session II (3.82).

I've had two internships (One at UCD Veterinary teaching hospital Pharmacy, one at Rite Aide). I'm in a community service fraternity, and I'm also a member of the pre-pharmacy club and if it counts I also have a job right now as a research assistant in a plant biology labratory on campus.

And Pharm47 I'm pretty sure UCSD is like UCSF.. they don't look at your app at all until after Nov 1st.

UCSD does not having rolling admission so just take your time and prepare well written responses. I wouldn't submit my app a week unitl before the due date. You should be fine.

Polar are you a CA resident? I'm out of state, so that will hurt me. I'm not sure what UCSD's average GPA is, but yours is not bad, and you have awesome extracurriculars. Also your upward grade trend will look good. I feel like its a long shot at any school these days, no matter what your numbers are! I say go for it!

Jessica - no, I'm not a UCSD student.

You should apply anways. I am only applying to UCSD- if I get in that would be great and if I don't, thats ok too.

should i apply to UCSD after i do all my prerequ? or should i finish my bachelors?

Finish your bachelors. I read on their website that 100% of accepted students had bachelors for the last two years. I think the first year of the progam, 2-3 students got in without their degree. It seems a no-brainer to me.

UCSD gives preference to in state students? I know UCSF doesn't care whether you are in or out of state.. I always just assumed UCSD was the same. I'm not sure though.

And yeah.. with my science GPA I feel like a longshot at all the schools I'm applying to as well... stupid physics haha

Hi PolarBear, I just want to say that you should apply to UCSD. My friend and I both got in for Pharmacy for Fall 2006. We're ecstatic. First we thought that we had no chance too since the avg accepted GPA is high but my friend got in with a cumulative GPA around 3.4-3.5. From my interview experience, UCSD emphasizes more on research then the interaction with patience's aspect comparing to other schools. So if you have a background on research... that's great. Give UCSD a chance because it's a great school locating in a beautiful environment.
