I've noticed from a lot of my secondaries that schools seems to want 2 science LOR's and a non-science LOR. I had a non-science prof lined up this summer, but it looks like things have fallen through.

I graduated a few years ago, and my school is kind enough to let me use their letter service. I took an English class this sumer, and asked the prof for a LOR. His letter hadn't been received, so I followed up with him in late August. He said he'd get back to me, but hasn't. I have followed up with 3 more emails and a phone call. He's on sabbaticcal right now, so I understand he may have limited access to this things, but I'm wondering when I just forget abput him off?? Would schools consider me complete without the non-science rec?? I just don't feel like I have any other options. I've been out of school a few years, and I didn't take many non-science classes to begin with, so I don't feel there are any other profs who I had interaction with that I could ask.

Any advice?? Thanks in advance!

ive applied to most of my schools without a non-science letter. i have even gotten been to michigan without ever having sent one.

however, michigan and harvards request for a non-science letter worried me enough, so i asked a english prof to write one. it wont be ready for a few more days, but once thats good, then ill send my letters to harvard (and the extra one to umich)

I don't have a non-science letter either. I have found most schools to be reasonable. I call and tell them my situation (same as you - graduated a while ago) and they have all been okay with it. I follow up the phone call with a letter stating my intent to substitute the non-science with other letters (work and shadowing) so they can put it in my file.
My advice would be to contact the schools in question and see if they will work with you. Good luck!
