With those stats, applying to 1 school, and applying MD/PhD? If its really true (I don't see any reason for you to be lying of course, but you never know) you damn well better be astonished.. was it MSTP?

My advisor told me b4 she left I was going to be fine, but I did not believe her b/c of all the horror stories I heard. So, I was quite astonished when I received as many interview offers as I did and then acceptances following.

I have been truly blessed and I am grateful.

Hindsight bias: I applied to wayyyyyyyyy too many schools

Grace wasn't too confidence inspiring but I guess she's been around the block enough to know how things work. Better safe than sorry!

Yes, I'm astonished. Wake up every morning and thank God for how incredibly fortunate I am.

Top-tier liberal arts university.
GPA - 3.7
sGPA - 3.55
MCAT 25P

Applied 13 MD schools.
Interview invitations for 7.
Stopped going to interviews after 1st acceptance.

If you are a member of the Penn Class of 2013, major congrats. Sweet school!

ha no...I did a postbacc program at Penn and then I decided not to apply to any schools in Philly (don't see myself living here for four more years).

But I am happy with my choices...some of which would be comparable schools.

Thanks though

I'm shocked that I was accepted. Astounded that I got multiple acceptances. And just plain shocked when I got into a good school (UCSD!!!!!!).

I think I was one of her favorites b/c I was one of Caren Campbell's acquaintences. So yeah...Grace 😍 me

this is kinda off topic, but riceman, do you know if Penn State is friendly to OOS? I'm thinking of applying there this cycle.

haha thas a funny line
im pretty stunned i got into such a pretty school, too!

BLUE ELMO: Penn State is waaay friendly to out of staters! I think more than half the class is OOS! ...and about half of that half is probably from cali...

I was astounded when I got 4 md interviews. Being accepted to a new school was that much more amazing.

I cried when I found out I had gotten an interview. It took about 2 days for it to finally sink in when I was accepted. Floored doesn't even begin to cover it.

congrats, btw!!!

Haha pretty much my experience. I cried a little when I got my first interview. Cried harder (like, loudly and obnoxiously) when I got in. Almost got hit by a car when i got a scholarship.

Same school for all 3 by the way, and the school I'll ultimately be attending.

Incidentally, I wasn't the only one astonished at my fortune this cycle. My family admitted to having had some doubts, my premed adviser (who had previously suggested I probably wouldn't get in) couldn't believe it, and my best friend was like "you know, I love you but...you're not THAT special, what'd you do?!"

Anyway, this process is a mystery. Thank God for lady luck.

I'm pretty surprised, both because of mediocre stats (3.48, 3.07 BCPM, 33) and the fact that nothing I've ever done was to get into med school, and hence I was a VERY unique candidate - I'm not the emotional type, but I am definitely very relieved and happy that schools recognize that I can be a doctor with a unique career, and I got into med school on my own terms 🙂

Yeah... I'm pretty surprised. My stats are mediocre, and also, I only decided I wanted to be a doctor three years ago so it's still barely registered in my head that I'm actually doing it.

Yesterday my mother told me that she's really proud that I got in and that even though my brother's been through all this, it wasn't until I went through it that she really understood just how difficult this process is.

it's not an MSTP, just a straight MD/PhD. but it's in the tradition of MSTP's, just not funded as such (hard science research). yes, i've had a pretty successful career so far, but i would think most that are considering medicine should fall in that category (but maybe i'm wrong). i didn't have a ton of research, but what i had aligned closely with an area the school was looking to expand in. and i do have a fairly diverse history of leadership, volunteerism, academic interests, athletics etc. no one i know ever doubted i would get in, but quite frankly they didn't know my stats. and everyone on sdn seems pretty obsessed with stats so i figured med schoolswould be as well. it's nice to know that some places still look at the whole-person concept.

by the way, this was my hail marry year. i was getting everything ready to apply next cycle, but i figured why wait when it's just a couple hundred bucks to get a chance at acceptance this year or at least feedback for next. but i didn't want to get into my 20th choice this year and face the decision of turning it down or settling. hence the low application count. guess it worked out, though.

I think I was a little bit more in rice's situation, where I wasn't surprised I got in somewhere but I was surprised how much success I had during the cycle.
