my gf matched at the gen surg program in cincinnati (u of cinci). we are going to start house hunting and stuff...anyone from the area who has any stories they can share or suggestions? any contacts in terms of real estate agents, mortgage brokers, etc? neighborhoods to avoid or to look at in terms of low crime, good schools, reasonable property values that are on the rise?

finally, any info on the residency program itself, beyond what's readily available on the web? specifically, is it REALLY q3 all 5 years all year long every year?

i would be hugely grateful for any replies here or to my email [email protected] with the subject line "cincinnati." especially helpful folks may be taken to dinner once we get settled. 🙂

thanks,
jason

If she doesn't mind a 20-25 minute drive during rush hour, you should definitely look in Anderson Township. It's an east-side suburb that has the best public schools from K-12. Check out http://www.foresthills.edu. If you're going to live in the city limits, plan on sending your kids to private school (of which there are some very good ones)...that's my personal opinion. I grew up in Anderson Twp, attended Sherwood elementary, and graduated from Turpin High School. There are reasonable homes, and really expensive homes...but everything is on the rise. Good luck.

thanks, man! i'll check it out, definitely. thanks in advance to anyone else for their help.

No, the residents are definately NOT q3. They have night float, so the residents (at least on the gen surg services) are only on call on the weekends.

As for places to live, Cinci is CHEAP! And there's always tons of housing available. I don't know too much about the schools, but I believe suburbs like Montgomery, Kenwood, and Loveland have good schools, and are nice places to live (Although Loveland is a bit far from the hospital). There are some nice neighborhoods in the city (Mt. Lookout, Hyde Park), but like heldicus said, you're probably not gonna wanna send your kids to Cinci public schools.

Best of luck to you! :luck:
