I am highly considering BU and I have read and re-read their webite to learn as much about the school as possible. I would really appreciate some honest advice from someone that attends BU. Pros and Cons? How about living in Boston and paying an extremely high tuition, is it panning out to be worth it?? Thanks🙂

Why r u thinking about selecting BU. At this stage u should be applying to as many as universities as u can. If u get in then u should decide where to go.
BU is good university, my wife is in dental school there. Living is expensive. Tufts is said to be better than BU because u get more clinical experience there. But in reality, boston has three dental colleges and Tufts doesn't get that many patients so tufts student spend more time doing nothing and waiting for patient. I guess BU is better than as u r learning something and not just waiting for patient to show up.
If u can find a cheaper school then go for it.

With regard to the clinical experience at Tufts, this is false. Please, do not spread rumors. We get plenty of clinical experience, and have no problem getting patients. We do not sit around, and I have been told by D'04 and D'05 students that they are having no problem getting the patients they need. The Boston area is highly populated, so all three schools here should have no problem getting patients. BU I know for sure doesn't have this problem (I have spoken with students at that school and who have worked at that school). I do not know how Harvard is, but once again, Boston is a major city. In fact, I'd be very hard pressed to find a school anywhere in the US in a large city that is having problems getting patients.

It's a great school as I have always said. They cater to their students and are very helpful in terms of the number of resources they provide you. I'm a little busy now but you can PM me or ask more specific questions. Doing a little search on some of the messages I've posted in the past three months should give you some info on BU.

I have to say BU is a type of school that's willing to accept anybody as long as u r willing to fork out the $ for their outrageous tuition. I feel as though people that attend there are bunch of rejects that can't go anywhere else. The same thing goes with nyu. Half of the students at BU are from Kali....why would they come so far for school and pay that amount of money....it's definitely not for the school reputaion because it has non......it's because BU is a reservoir for rejects that can't get anywhere better. BU has regional interviews...kinda desperate u think. BU is among the first to send out their acceptances. One good thing bout BU is that it's such a eazy dental school. If u r looking for a eazy curriculum and willing to pay for it...then BU is for u. Oh yeah....the state of mass recently passed a bill that cuts down on the dental procedures that the state is willing to pay for welfare patients....since most of ur patients r welfare patients....wut do u think it's going to happen. The school was having alot of trouble of getting patients but I think BU is picking up half of the bill now....but ultimately the students are paying for it out of their tuitions. by the way...do u know what APEX is....it is a way for dentists to get free labor from bu students.....shouldn't bu be teaching their students rather than to ship them out to somewhere else for free...hey..u r paying alot $ for bu education.

i'm a DS1 starting in the fall at BU. i started the summer excel program only three weeks ago, so i may be the wrong person to reply to this, chevy.

i've heard rumors like what makebuleeve stated above, but don't buleeve him or her. there exactly that... rumors.

BU has installed the "bump up" program which allows low income families in the community to get proper dental treatment at a fraction of the cost some where else. you'll get patients.

in additional to BU, many other schools have regional interviews. so they're not the only ones fishing.

there are alot of cali people... yes, but there all cool and .... who cares where they're from. i love the fact that people from all over the country (and the world, mostly canada) come to BU to study and learn.

east coast schools in general send out letters way early, and west coast sends them way late. that's the way it is.

APEX... well make buleeve... i'm gonna agree with you there. i don't understand why students pay the school to work somewhere else. especially for free. it blew my mind. i realize there's liability insurance involved but damn... they're not paying prof. to teach.....makes me wonder.

tuition wise.... yes it's expensive. comparative to other d schools, it ultimately is gonna be the same education. you'll be a dentist.

now with that said, if i had it my way, i'd stay closer to home and attend a public school. it's cheaper and good support system is important for first and second years (from what i've been told). you need a outlet and being around teeth and teeth people can get annoying. and having friends/fmaily support system is important to me. they all live on the west coast. LA and seattle.

chevy, my advice is check out each school you're really interested in and check out a few you may not have been. you might be surprised. who cares about the couple hundred now you'll spend on apps. think about paying a boat load of money for a shcool you hated. i made that mistake and double my undergrad loans in one semester at a private school!!!!

hope you can translate this scribble.

Hey, I read your question and I feel like sharing my opinion with you. I got accepted to Nova, BU, and michigan. honsetly after visiting all schools, I felt that profs at BU are allot more friendly and open to questions when comparing to other schools. In regards to the APEX program, I believe that it is very important to get hands on experience as soon as possible when preparing for the real world. BU also has the simulation lab which is very high tech and helpful, When you get the chance you should go and visit it. You have to be really critical when reading these massages, because for some reason everyone thinks that their school is best and they try to criticize other schools. One thing I can tell you is that BU does not take all the rejects. My entering GPA is 3.85 and I had very good DAT scores and got accepted to all schools that I applied, and I do not believe that I should be called a reject.I know of 3 other classmates entering this AUG who have very high GPA and they also choose to attend BU, because of its reputation. It is true that it is expensive, but remember you get what u pay for. sometimes you read others saying you are in as long as you are willing to pay the cash, that is also unsound since BU has a huge rejection list( I saw it during my interview) and also lengthy waiting list. So my suggestion to you is to visit each school and observe the prof- student relations, since it is very important, they are willing to spend as much time necessary with you to help you, now u try that in a public school(lOL). see the facilities, talk to students, only than you can grasp a true view of suitability of diff, schools. I did my research when choosing my school and I hope u do so as well. dont worrey to much about tuition since you will pay it off in no time once u graduate and start working. the quality of learning and individual attention from profs should be your priority.. anyhow I hope that I was of some help to you. good luck and study hard doing your undergrad.

it doesn't matter where u go just as long u pick a cheap skool to go to. u r going to become a competent dentist...it's totally up to u and not the skool. so all this argument of which skool is better is pointless. just pick a cheap skool to go to and u will thank urself in the future. thinking that u will be able to pay off the loans after u graduate is just stupid. u think u will be making money right after u graduate....hell no....most of us will be paid the minimum and probably part-time. u have to remember....people don't like to hire fresh dentists unless they can pay them cheap. so the mentality that u r going make big bucks is unrealistic. so do urself a favor....save that money for u to open up ur own practice...that's when u start to make money. it's going to be very hard to pay back bu tuition....it's like buying a house and don't forget to add interest to the equation...it's like paying off a mortgage. so u will be spending like 30+ yrs paying off ur debt for friendly professors and super duper labs. plus....why would u pay soooo much for bu. bu just doesn't have a good reputation...people just don't think highly of bu dental students. the skool is just too eazy to get in and to survive.

Hey behand...lemme get this straight....you have a 3.85 GPA, and good DAT scores, could have easily gotten into any school you wanted (including Canadian schools), but instead decided to goto one of the most expensive schools in North America cause they have fancy gadgets??? HAHHAHAH....either you are totally bull****ting here, or you shoot up in your spare time.

I would like to know how you could get a grasp of prof-student relations during a visit? Also, how did you come to conclusion that your all important prof-student relations are not found in public schools? Also, you said you get what you pay for?? ummm, so BU is like $50,000 a year and Texas public schools are $10,000 a year, so that means BU gives you 5X the experience?? 😕

Dude, you really dont know what you are talking about. Here is a tip, perhaps you dont trust what people have to say on this site, but do some more research, cause obviously you are still clueless.
