Hey all,

This is my first post. I am applying to med school for the second year in a row and trying to remain calm about this horrendous process. So, I applied to 26 schools. Rejected from a bunch and so far, offered an interview at only one school (UConn). Has anyone out there contacted admissions offices to inquire as to their status and/or to ask for an interview? How does one do that??? And is a call better than email? I am willing to do just about anything to avoid rejection from 100%, like last year.

Any advice would be much appreciated! 🙂

Just call the admission office, and say I like to check the status on my application. Some school only can check your status on certain day or certain time, so just make sure you call during that time. Don't worry, most admission ppl are friendly, and willing to help you. Good luck to you :luck:

Thanks! I'll give it a shot!

You can also try to speak with an admissions counselor. My friend did this and got to know him very well, and she actually got in. She thinks that it really helped to get to know this one person because they usually end up speaking with people on the committee, and if your application ever comes up, they can put in a good word. It is worth a shot, and whenever you call, you have a specific person that you can speak with. My friend ended up calling I think at least once a week to see if they had reviewed her application and to see if she could do anything right now to help her case. Good luck. :luck:

Did you apply to both DO and MD schools? Also - I was wondering if you applied to the same schools twice?

I called and emailed the schools I applied to at just about every step. I confirmed receipt of the initial application, secondary, fees, letters, etc, etc. Things moved through very quickly for some schools. One in particular hadn't contacted me for an interview so I called and asked what the status was of my application and when I might expect a possible interview invitation. I'm glad I called, turns out my file was complete but they, for some reason, overlooked a certain piece of info and were still waiting on me. Once they realized they had made a mistake my file moved on in their process. A few weeks later I sent an email reminding them of my interest in their school and about a week later they emailed me with an interview invitation. I doubt a student would get rejected for constant contact. With my future riding on it I wasn't willing to wait and hope they paid attention to me.

Doesn't hurt to call/email admission offices and enquire. It might not help you all the time, but it won't hurt you either. And make sure you are polite and patient with them. They get overloaded with all the applications and associated paperwork and followup enquiries, so give them some room to breathe.
Good luck.
