anyone completed hiv prophylaxis post occupational exposure?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know of someone who developed pancreatitis and had to be hospitalized.

My philosophy is this: if I get a needle stick from a high risk patient, I'll take the prophylaxis. If the side effects bother me, I can always stop. However, if I delay starting prophylaxis, I can't just start it anytime. I would rather start it and have the option to stop it than not have the option to start it because I waited too long.

I've been stuck several times during the past 20 years. Fortunately, they were all low risk patients. I weighed the risk/benefits and decided against prophylaxis.

I'm not sure what I'd do if it were a high risk patient. I'd probably go the route Southern pointed out.

Take care,
Jeff
