I just gotta tell everyone that checks this thread out, that I think UMDNJ has a real good deal for dental education. 18K a year tuition for residents and considering the fact that you get resident status right away, I don't see why nobody applies there. I think people simply don't apply there because if anyone checked out their previous status on how many out of state students they accept, it looks like an impossible school to get into as a non-resident, but this year they've changed it so everyone has equal chance to get in. If you guys didn't apply there, I hope you guys spread the word for your fellow predental students who are applying next year. Plus, during the interview I checked out the school and it's as good as it gets for a dental school considering the patient pool, availability of chairs (you basically get ur own chair), and friendly staff and students (faculty are like ur momz and dads). It's seriously a hidden heaven for dental students. Oh yeah, if anyone is going there 2005, say hi to your future class mate, me.^^

I loved the place as well and got an acceptance. I am strongly considering going there!

how did you get an acceptance already when you live in CA...doesnt it take like 5-6 days for the mail to get here?

I don't know, I live in San Diego, and I got my acceptance on December 3rd, so you should get a response soon. GOOD LUCK ^^!

Look at your DAT score man, Ur in For SUre. Don't even worry ^^

Hey

I'm considering UMDNJ.. You didn't mention their new building with brand new clinics and everything.. Very nice.

I think its a great school. The area is less than desirable but isn't too bad.. It's like ghetto-lite.

Tuition is a bit more than that. I think it's just under 21k just for tuition then you have to add all thousands in fees, DVD’s, laptop, instruments and others.. By far, it's not the cheapest state school.

I called UMDNJ on Dec 1st to find out. They just told me over the phone. Also, one of the people on admissions called me dec 3rd to ask me if he could answer any questions. I'm in San Diego as well and my acceptance packet still hasn't gotten here yet so don't worry.

oh ok, you scared me... 😀

I have strongly considered applying to school here this June...looks like a pretty solid institution and I wouldn't mind being in Jersey for a while...lots of hot hispanic ladies and puerto rican mamas  .

Very interesting. I would like to know where you got this information?

Thanks a lot

UMDNJ is an extremely impressive school! I would hate to think that "no one" applies there! It was fantastic! The faculty was so nice, and their new facilities are TERRRIFIC. It's the "cheapest" state school, but it certainly is not OVERLY expensive. I was incredibly impressed w/ it! I am still waiting on a few more before I make my final decision, but UMDNJ is up there on my list!

It wasn't actually this year, as for as know it's been this way for a while.. They make it very easy for anyone to become a resident Pretty much need to set yourself up in NJ (DL, water bill, etc.) and your a resident. According to them, no one really pays the out of state tuition.

They told me at the interview that in the past, they have given preference to Jersey resident and THIS YEAR (they said) they changed the rules and they emphasized how everyone has equal chance to get in. If you look at their stats on how many people applied there, there aren't too many applications at Jersey (I got this from the ADA dental school book, I forgot the exact name of it, the one that tells you all the GPA, # of applicants, etc etc) compared to lot of other schools. Just among all the predents that I know, nobody applied there so that's where "NOBODY APPLIES THERE" came from. Even myself, I only applied because I was fortunate enough to hear about it from another Californian student.

just a qualifier - the "nobody applies there" certainly does not apply to those of us living near NJ (basically, tristate area). i think eveyone i have spoken with has applied there.

Ok, take it easy. ^^

k 😀

my point was simply that UMDNJ is more of a local area school, rather than one that draws from all over the country. not sure why - maybe because it's in a really bad neighborhood (downtown Newark is NOT your friend)? but there are some nice communities really close, so... 😕

so yeah, i'm not sure why UMDNJ hasn't has as much national exposure as some other state Us have had.

Point well taken, I don't know why either. I guess I just wasn't around people who knew a lot about it. But at the same time, us californians only know what's out here haha SO I guess it sorta makes sense.

Japolloniac is right, it's not so easy to get into UMDNJ

There was a guy at my kaplan SAT teacher meeting in Atlanta last night who said UMDNJ is his #1. He also said he should be hearing in a few days. I'm not sure if he is on SDN or not.

Training takes some time. It's not nearly as hard as studying for the exam in the first place.. Pay is okay.. around $18/hr classrooom time and a reduced rate/hr for your prep time.

just watch out, though, if you're in a state as one of not even a handful of DAT tutors, Kaplan will try to send you to all sorts of sites. i was in indiana and they wanted me to put a lot of mileage in. :-( plus i hate driving in the midwest--it's so flat and the scenery's the same everywhere. i've def. almost fallen asleep on the wheel a few times.
