Matching in ortho is already hard, the thought of couples matching in it is giving me the heebeegeebees. At least my spouse is going into IM.

Has anyone here done this? How did it work out? Did you tell the program director that you are couples matching and that your spouse is applying also? Would the PD even care?

me: >250 Step 1, one publication
spouse: >240 Step 1, top medical school

Unless you or your spouse have something terrible in your application or an obvious personality problem, you should be fine. Apply broadly for ortho, she has great scores for all but the most competitive programs in the country.

I know people that have couples matched to two very competitive fields and were fine. You can "subtly" add that you are very interested in applying to program "X" because your wife, who is applying to the IM program, is very interested in it because of "Y".
