Hi everyone,

Hi everyone..I am dentist looking into public health programs..was wondering if I should do a DPH or MPH!
I am so grateful to be here at this site..wish I knew earlier..🙂luck:

I have the same question as well....I am confused that should I go to UMDNJ for Dental Public Health or MPH at University of Texas, Houston ? I have been accepted by both universities.
Is DPH at UMDNJ is helpful to get in for DDS program ????

I was working towards completing a DPH at the University of Michigan before they suspended the program. Of course, I can only speak of how they structured the program here and my experiences of said structure.

At Michigan, the DPH program was administered through the department of epidemiology and successful completion would result in the MPH degree. That is, DPH and MPH are not mutually exclusive. That being said, I think that a background in epidemiology (as it pertains to dental public health) could prove to be very useful. I can only think of a handful of people who do this for their career. I think other "arms" of public health are also quite pertinent to dentistry.

The short is, you need to figure out what you would like to do with public health and dentistry and decide the best fit for you.

HI LITEBEAR AM I RIGHT?THERE IS NO OTHER Way FOR DPH OTHER THAN THROUGH MPH???

Sure. The DPH is, at least was the case at Michigan, a one of the concentrations that would fall under the auspice of MPH. Much like MPH could be given to a health behavior or biostatistics student. It is an umbrella degree that could mean a lot of things.
