I will be beginning my first year of dental school this fall and I am doing the Navy HSCP scholarship. The scholarship doesn't pay for your school but pays me as an E6 w/ full benefits and the time counts towards retirement. If I find somebody to join and they say I recommended them then I'll be promoted to E7 which is a nice pay raise. If somebody can hook me up with a name please PM me (it can be any of the navy's health care programs: medical, nursing, etc...). I'll hook you up then too. This is really easy if you already know of somebody getting ready to join (or already in the process of the application). Thanks!

Why would you want to screw your friend like that?

I don't get it...or are you just trying to be cute 👎. This would benefit someone else without requiring anything additional of them from what they are already doing.

I dunno about everyone else, but generally I reserve committing fraud for when a close friend of family member needs a hand.

I'm curious to hear how anything about this concept is committing fraud. This entire program works off recruiting and referrals. Are you limiting your comment to a vague one-liner b/c you can't find a destructive comment to post that has any validity?

You do what you gotta do.
I was joking about hooking him up with honor. I don't do online humor well.
I'm just saying, he shouldn't be getting all pissy for calling it for what it is.
Agreed. Especialy for the difference between E6 and E7. If you're going to cheat, at least hold out for bigger stakes, no?

You asked someone who is already in the process of joining to lie, and say that you recommended them. You want them to do this so that you can procure more money from the U.S. government. You offer vague promises of a kickback ("hook up").

Lying to get money is pretty much the definition of fraud.

Good luck finding your honor prior to commissioning.

I'm apologize if saying "hook you up" was misleading. What I meant was I would help you do the same (recruit someone to then promote yourself). I thought that was obvious, but I do see how it might not have been.

My recruiter actually put my name in to get another HSCP student a promotion (and she hadn't even told me about it until I read his name on a document and asked who the guy was). She just retired, has two kids, and a third one on the way. Her husband is headed to med school. I don't think that she would jeopardize her career/"honor" for something so nominal for herself. I know another student, who did the same thing...I'm pretty sure that this is a very common occurance and anyone would be quite naive to think otherwise. Calling it "fraud" is laughable..."making a living" might be a more appropriate tag. I guess anyone could argue that we were actually referred to the branch we are in by some commercial on tv or the fact that great grand-daddy was in the service or whatever initially put the idea in your head. Why would you want to make something out of nothing?...especially when your intention appears only to belittle or denegrate someone else. I'm quite fine with my "honor" and my upcoming commitment to serve my country...but with the whole "holier-than-thou" attitude are you?

But it is fraud, you did nothing to get this individual in the military. You did no work for it. But putting that applicants name on the form and say you "recommended" them is a lie and to say otherwise laughable.

I know you are trying to make a buck and increase your base pay but why not go out, talk to other students and actually get one to join otherwise you are committing fraud.

I would definitely be willing to offer all of my experience and insight into the program to anyone interested in my offer (including info regarding promotion)...In fact I would feel obligated to help them as best I could. Beyond my initial decision to enter the Navy, there have been a couple military students who have provided me with an invaluable amount of info on the HSCP and HPSP (and the Navy in general). I would love to be able to give one of them credit for my referral. However, had one of them initially approached me knowing that my decision to enter would benefit him, the info offered would be inherently biased and potentially deceptive. I am much more confident with the info I have recieved due to the circumstances in which it was offered.

Now think about it from the military's perspective: Will the military gain greater benefit from providing sensationalized information which locks recruits in, or from continually offering helpful insight and direction to well-informed new recruits? Consider the vast difference in both reputation and retention resulting b/w these two strategies. Yet, are both these descriptions not what a recruiter does?...The former is just the description of a "bad" recruiter and the later the description of a "good" recruiter.

I've now made my point in several different lights. Obviously there are some other "opinions" in this thread. My offer still stands; anyone interested, PM me. When I say I will "hook you up," it is well-within the definition of a referral (and my referrals will be quality at that). Further, I'm open to helping anyone at all seeking insight (Feel free to PM me regarding whatever)...I've never been of the mentality to offer help to only those I directly benefit from.
