I've been accepted to Barry but i'm not sure if i will be attending. I'm on the waitlist for BU. Do you know if i can accept Barry's offer and then just lose my deposit if I decide to go to BU? I'm not bound to Barry (other than the deposit) if I say yes right? Thanks!

I will be attending the Barry BMS program starting this fall. PM me with any questions. I visited the campus last month and have done alot of research on the program.

Has anyone else who has been accpeted received any info from them, the last thing I received was the acceptance letter!!

Is the campus nice?
Is the program challenging, and how is it viewed by medical and dental schools?

Coming from NY, the campus is different. There are no tall academic buildings, but the campus is well manicured and seems to be the size where each student can get individualized attention. the administration has been amazing so far.

from what I have heard, barry graduates often end up attending some of the south florida MD and DO schools. NOVA is one which sticks out in my mind. there is also an official linkage with one of the carribean schools if all else fails.

Hi all, more than likely, I'll be going to Barry. I am still waiting to hear from a few more schools in these next couple weeks, but if they don't get back to me in time (and there's only a select few that I'd choose over Barry), I'll be heading to Miami Shores! Big change from Wisconsin... 🙂

hey everyone i live about 3 hrs from miami so im a fl native. I was accepted to Barry as well for the fall. Have you guys found a place, maybe we can get together before school starts and possibly be roommates. I have a few apts in mind. From friends that go there, many have been accepted to MD/DO schools and dental as well. There is a linkage with St.Georges and even their podiatry program. hope to hear from you guys soon 😀

hey all, I got into the program as well, going to attend in the fall... I plan on checking out the school, as well as look for apartments middle june.. anyone looked into the off campus offering by the school?

yep i have. have a friend that has been in the program already hence he knows the good/bad places. pm me if you want to look for some apts together. 🙂

i was also accepted for this fall. i havent received anything from them either since the acceptance letter. from what i've heard, it is a good program and rather challenging. it is true that a lot of students end up in either the caribbean schools, their podiatry program, or the florida med schools. if youre in the 2 year program, by the time you're finished with the masters, FIU med school should be opening up in miami so thats always another option. be the first class ever into their new medical school.

yep for the people in the 2 yr program applying to UCF and FIU med schools you will prob have an advantage than most with just bachelors according you do have a solid grad gpa and mcat scores. Many students do decide to enter their podiatry program or do go into MD/DO/DMD schools that they apply too. Also they are in direct linkage with St.Georges. It's not going to be a walk in the park, like any school you do have to put in that time to study. also some students there tell me is doable gotta have good time management. study hard and party hard 😀 South beach can't be beat compared to Boston but thats just my 2cents. 👍

Hi Guys,
I was just accepted to the Barry 1 year Masters program as well. I was wondering if you guys knew much about the reputation of the program. I have a friend there right now who seems to like it, but I was curious as to how successful they were at getting people into medical schools. They do have a list on their website of the medical schools that students from their program have gone to and it was a pretty impressive list (all the UC schools, NYU, Dartmouth).
I was just wondering if anyone else on this board had any more information about it.

So why did you guys pick Barry? I'm considering it myself.

I will be attending the Barry BMS program (2yr) i am looking forward to a change of atmosphere from NY and would love to go to NSU, or any other florida medical school. As stated above, I have been pretty impressed with the program director and the staff who operates under him. I recently received an e-mail from the program office explaining which classes will be offered in the fall, along with some administrative dates (orientation, registration,etc..) i was pretty impressed with the campus, it is a typical small southern campus with no high-rise lecture halls or sky-scraping dorms. I am looking forward to making the change this august.

it looks like august 23 is orientation/registration, and the 28th is the first day of classes..

chose it because i get to stay at home for at least 2 more years and live rent free. oh yeah, also because i heard it is a good program as well as tough

Can you post your stats?

I'm applying to barry for spring semester and no one would tell me the stat of entrance

Hi guys,

I have just been accepted to the 1 year program at Barry U. I'm really curious about the place and the school. My first impression of the school is that their really care about the students. I'm looking for a place to stay or the dorm is fine. Does any one have any ideas how the dorms are like. PM if you would consider being roommates.

Thanks...

I talked to Dr Lauden recently about the program. He was pretty convincing by telling me that Cornell, UC Berkely, and Boston U all rank Barry as the #1 Post bacc program. Is that true? I called Boston and Cornell and they hadn't heard of it. I didn't talk to the Dean, but no one in the admissions office seemed to be familiar with it.

Barry has an interesting curriculum but the only thing that worries me about it is that there is no guaranteed interviews or strong linkages with other medical schools. But Dr Lauden was saying how Barry is a strong program and getting a 3.5+ GPA will help you a lot. Who knows.

Thanks to everyone that replied to my question. I was accepted to the 2 year track, but I won't be going to Barry because RFU accepted me. I am going to notify Barry asap.

I found out today that I was accepted. The only problem is that I am having a hard time making a decision b/t this program, the LECOM Post-bacc. program, and the GA-PCOM Biomed. program. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? PLEASE!!! I NEED HELP ASAP! 😡 😡

Oops! I didn't mean to use the Mad faces. I meant to put to Confused faces.

The graduate housing doesnt sound too appealing to me. Where are all of you planning on staying?

i messaged you about this before but what the hey. in lecom youre guaranteed an interview if you get a 3.0 and at least a 20 (i think) on the mcat. barry will switch you out of option 3 into option 1 during the spring if you get a 3.0 in the fall. honestly, if you wanna get it over with quickly go with lecom or pcom and youll also incur less debt since its a 1 year program. just my $0.02

do you think barry will switch you out of option 1 into option 2 based on your first semester grades as well? I was hoping to finish it in a year. Also does anyone know any good places to live? Are any of you looking for a female roommate? message me! thanks

Barry won't switch you out of option 1 into option 2. The cirriculums are very different. I'd say it would have to be your choice to make the switch. Barry WILL put you on academic probation if you earn more than 2 grades of C or 1 D in the BMS program.

hey guys! i was just accepted to barry's masters program. As for drjds question--i have talked to Dr. L, Marlyn, and the admissions office...the reason some were accepted into the option 3 path is because they haven't taken the mcat...however...as soon as they do...they can be moved from option 3 to option 1 or 2. They said to take your elective courses and biochem and soon you can be asked to be moved to option 2 🙂 I don't think there is really a rank to the different options because all three options are somewhat geared towards what you prefer (option 1: complete 1 year, option 2: complete 2 year, and option 3: research).

I'm curious about this program though since the stats are hidden and their website is a bit deceptive if BU and others school claim they never even said that Barry is num 1 for their post-bacc. I thought it was actually a very good program --like many of you -- when i read their website. The courses seem very on track as well. However, do most students end up getting into US medical schooL? or carribean schools?

I was accepted to NYMC as well--and their program is not as well known as say BU or Georgetown. So I called up a couple of medical schools and all said acceptnce really is a numbers game --as long as you are obtaining a masters in science courses and do well (3.5), you'll be considered competitive.

😳
