Has anyone else been accepted to VCU? I was accepted a couple weeks ago and I am 99% sure I will be heading there in the summer. Just wanted to see if anyone else out there is planning on attending OT school there too 🙂

I was accepted and I am about 90% sure I will be attending VCU. I was accepted to a school in Buffalo, NY and I have an interview at Touro Nevada in Henderson. It seems to be a good program, but I would still like to get more info about VCU.

I was accepted to VCU, but I am still weighing my options. I really like VCU's program, I know a few OT graduates from VCU that say it's awesome, but I am still waiting to hear back from a few more schools.

Congrats VCU acceptances! Would you mind sharing stats to lend some perspective?

Has anybody received their acceptance packet in the mail? I have only received the email but not the packet yet. I am also from out of state, so mine will take longer.

DiscoK8-
I received the acceptance email on January 11 and then I think they sent the department acceptance letter in the mail within a week but for some reason it was sent to my parent's house in MN and they had recently moved and so it had to be forwarded and it took awhile to get there.
I let VCU know that I wanted stuff sent to my current address in VA, and in early February I also got a letter from the graduate school.
I would say to email Dianne Simons if you have any questions. She has responded to any questions I have very quickly.

Whistle Pig-
I graduated from University of WI in 2010 with Sociology/Social Welfare majors and ~3.7 overall gpa; prerequisite gpa ~3.9-4.0
GRE writing was a 4.0; verbal 500; quant 630.
60 hours observing OTs; served in AmeriCorps two years in college

I also received an acceptance to VCU. I asked for a 2 week extension because I wanted to see if I heard from any of the other schools I applied to, which I haven't yet...I had an interview at Temple this past week which went well, but I won't hear anything from them for a couple weeks "officially." I feel like I was strongarmed into paying VCU to reserve my spot, but I'm still considering other options if I get acceptance and will just have to forfeit the deposit I guess?

I like the idea of saving money by going to an in-state school (VCU), but I guess I don't know much about their program. I was looking at their curriculum - is it true there are only 2 Level I fieldwork placements? Do you guys know any strong points about their program? I am interested in hand therapy (maybe) but when I looked at the faculty and research at VCU, many of them seem to be involved in Sensory Integration and developmental disabilities. Anyone else have any other good points about VCU to share?

Also, do you know if VCU has a cadaver lab or not?

It appears as though there are two Level I fieldwork placements plus the two Level II fieldwork placements, but I was under the impression that most schools only offered two each of the Level I and II fieldwork placements.
A lot of the faculty does have sensory integration research, which is something I will likely be interested in researching, so in that aspect, VCU is a good fit for me.
If you click on the actual courses within the curriculum, you can see the description of the courses and it states that in the anatomy course taken this summer, there is work on a cadaver, and a focus on the hand.
I would say to email Dianne or someone if you have any questions about the program. I am sure they would be willing to provide you will some more information or answer any questions you have.

Hey,

Everyone that has been accepted to VCU for OT, is it the Doctoral program or the Masters program? I applied to VCU for the M.S.O.T but I have not heard anything yet, just trying to get some answers!

Thanks!
