Your application has been put on hold for possible interview. This means we will not be interviewing you at this time, however, you may be interviewed at a later date. Please be advised that we only interview 25% of those receiving secondary's.

I got this message today by email and was wondering if other people got it as well. I wonder if this means I am gonna be on perma-hold OR if like VCU they often interview people in this catagory. I am gonna go with perma-hold. Anyways, UCSD is updating!!

I had a couple of friends on the hold list last year. They got interviews later on.

Do you know when you were complete?

Its not good but its not necessarily a death sentence. Wait it out - update them if you can, and hope for the best.

I appreciate the stories but they are kinda mixed. Anyone else been in the situation?

I started this same thread a couple of days ago...I'm on the interview hold list as well, I got the same message. I was complete in early July. In am in state. Got the same thing from VCU...let's keep our fingers crossed.

So now do you just write a letter of interest?? I have really strong ties to UCSD and want to go there but is it too early to send a letter? I just don't want to annoy anyone.

If you're on hold its not too early. Go for it. I sent update letters to UCSD and UCI after being put on hold about this time last year. While I didn't ultimately get an interview at UCSD they were very receptive to my letter. Irvine I did get interviewed at and accepted.

So like I said - its not good news but its not necessarily a rejection.

If you have some useful information to provide them with then go for it. If you have nothing to really add to your file then you probably shouldn't bother them.

Why are you so set on UCSD? Do you know much about the school and style of teaching? Its very traditional which is rough on a lot of the students there. 8-5 lectures and no clinical training unless you join the free clinic can be a bit much for some people. Just be sure its what you want before you decide you definitely want to go there just for location - you may be sorely surprised that you don't like it as much as you thought you would.

I already posted this in another thread..I was put on pre-interview hold and eventually was invited for interview. I was then placed on post-interview hold and was eventually accepted. Don't let it break your heart, because I remember I felt like crap when I found out my own undergrad doesn't want to interview me. Just keep sending updates (It's REALLY important) and show your interest.

About what alwaysaangel said...the teaching here is very traditional. Lectures on Mon Wed and Fri are from 8-5. On Tuesdays and Thursdays it is from 8-12. Either on Tuesday or Thursday, you will most likely do an elective. These electives DO give you a lot of clinical exposure depending on what you choose. If you have any questions, PM me. I don't come on SDN much, but when I do I will respond. Good luck!
