I have finished writing my personal statement, explanation statement and my disadvantaged circumstances statement. I feel like I have repeated myself a lot. Some of the reasons I wrote the disadvantaged circumstances statement are reasons I had to write the explanation statement, and are important to my personal statement. Is this common? Should I change my personal statement and not put any of that stuff in it?

Just seems like what is important in one, is important in all of them. Oh, I am applying for Colorado State if this matters at all.

Hey there!

I completely understand what you are going through. The same thing happened to me when going through this process last year. Don't worry too much about it, sometimes it seems like you are going around in circles- but lets face it, the whole application is like a merry go round!!!

Good luck with everything!!

I looked at each additional supplemental essay as a way to discuss a different facet of my personality or experiences. It's hard to really show adcoms who you are in such a limited way, so I tried my best to do so by broadening the range of topics I discussed. Naturally there was some overlap, but rather than waste space re-explaining things, I'd reference experiences across essays in enough detail that a reader would know what I was talking about without boring them with reading the same things over and over. I kind of assume that everything is read in one sitting by a few different people, so be sure not to copy and paste sentences or start explaining things from scratch each time you bring them up.

Without knowing your personal circumstances or writing style, it's hard to say if you're repeating yourself too much, but my general advice would be to try and minimize repetition and substitute in more of your unique qualities.

First I will say, hello fellow CSU App!😀
anyhow I had the same issue, but what I did was in my special circumstances section I wrote some things, so that in my personal statement I could just glaze over the details but refer to it still. (just not in detail). Of course if I could narrow down my 10 different personal statements (and counting) it would help! lol
I wanted to ask, however. What do you mean by an explanation statement? I know there is the section for special circumstances and for your personal statement. am I missing something?

Good luck! hopefully we will have classes together next year:xf:

BTW if you want anyone to read over your statements and help you decide if they sound too redundant, send me a pm. I would be happy to. I think it has become almost therapeutic for me to help others and stop stressing over my own for a while😛

Thanks for the reply's.

Mystic88, Yes it is a merry-go-round. Very frustrating at times.

Moosenanny, So, that is basically what I am doing. I don't explain things twice, if it was explained in one essay I leave it. It just seems that I mention things several times. It sounds like this is OK, so I will leave it at that.

Maschka1, by explanation statement I meant special circumstances. Then there is disadvantaged circumstances and personal statement.😀 I will take you up on reading it though. The more people who read it the better. It at least insures grammatical, punctual and spelling perfection.🙂 Hopefully we will meet up in the fall. Good luck to you.
