Hey,
Here is the deal. I have applied to both Allopathic and Osteopathic medical schools. I would prefer to go to my state school because it is cheaper than going to any osteopathic school or an out of state allopathic school, but besides that, their are a few DO schools that i would strongly consider going to regardless of if i got into an MD school or not. With the above in mind, i completed my amcas application very early in the cycle and waited a month and a half do do my aacomas application hoping i would get an interview at my state school early and could complete the applications at the DO schools i wanted to attend early and hope to get interviews at them to cut my travel expenses. I thought my plan was working very smooth as i am scheduled to interview at my state MD school and one of the DO schools (DMU) i want to attend, but recently i have been offered interviews at some of the DO schools i have not sent my secondary applications to. Because some of these schools are a great distance from me, i may have to fly. I dont want to waste the money to go to these interviews if i am accepted at eaither of the three schools i am interviewing for. Is it ok to try to push the interview back a few weeks and give myself time to get a decision for the other schools and put together travel plans if needed?

Yes. I did that when MSU offered me an OOS interview when I applied. When I saw the OOS tuition, I scheduled that one two months after a string of 5 other interviews. I withdrew from MSU after my first acceptance in hand. (that OOS tuition for MSU is KILLER!)

Are you an outstanding candidate?
If you are competitive you may be able to push your interview back and still get in just fine. Then again, if you are that competitive, you shouldn't have a problem getting into the schools you want. Remember that schools don't wait until they have everybody interviewed before they make their decisions, so if you push your interview back, more of the class will be filled by the time you interview.
I went to every interview until I got an acceptance.

What DO schools offer interviews before getting your secondary? Is this common?

A couple of schools do a pre-secondary interview invite. I know KCUMB does.

Des Moines does too

I think Western does also.
