I don't know about you guys, but I'm not racing to get to med school. It really feels like time was just stolen away. I could stay here another 2......5 years.

When I think about my graduation date, I literally almost start crying.

All freshmen and sophomores, please stop obsessing over your physics homework because before you know it, college will be over!

Yeah, college has certainly been pretty sweet.

  • Surrounded by young, mostly active and attractive people
  • Allowed to do things late, incomplete, incompetently because I'm not in the "real world"
  • Allowed to take classes on a variety of topics with individuals who are experts on them and who are often passionate and excited
  • Live off mostly parents income, loans, scholarships, and grants. Rarely a concern of not eating or having to be evicted.
  • Constantly surrounded by friends who I can access within a few minutes to discuss stuff, have fun, party, whatever.
  • Have the time and energy to participate in sports, clubs, volunteer work, etc.
  • I'm still regarded as "young" and people care to see and develop the potential in me.

Hard not to miss it. I suppose that's why some people say it's the best years of our lives.

However, I've pretty much refused to accept that mentality. Each chapter is a new chapter. There's the "Medical School" one, the "Residency" one, the "Infant Children" one as well (I hope). I think there's always stuff to enjoy or else we'd all go crazy. I also hope (and believe) that I will mature to the point where I'm able to gracefully accept my new role in life and my transition from being a young adult with all kinds of opportunities to someone who can use all these great experiences and resources to make the most of his life.

When I'm old I want to bore all the kids with my stories--not just the college ones.

Yeah, I remembered I had those feelings... when I was 17 and graduating from high school.

But then I realized that, to me, there are things more valuable and important than indulging in personal pleasures with the generation of entitled, narcissistic, facebook-using adult-children that this society has produced.

Of course, I'm joking, I treasure my friends and there is a plethora of incredibly interesting and bright young people around the world.

My point is that some people enjoy using their time in ways that you wouldn't. Whether that means writing, socializing, taking pictures, or learning some physical science theories. "Enjoying" your time in college, worrying about physics, and positively influencing others are not mutually exclusive.

I feel the exact opposite. I cannot wait to start medical school, granted I am scared out of my mind about it though. I want to get a new apartment, meet new people who I know are at least at my level, and not have to indulge the random partiers making noise in my dorm. I agree, medical school is a new chapter, but I am really looking forward to it. I always felt like college was a weird continuation of high school where students still could not figure out how to grow up, I was sick of high school and I am sick of college. Yay new life!

If these are the best years of my life, my life is going to really, really suck. I guess if I had gone to a big university, I would have enjoyed college a lot more, but I cannot WAIT to graduate in 3 months.

College sucks. I can't wait for it to be over. I commute an hour each way so I don't have many friends on campus and I work all weekend so it's not like I can party, ever.

I did one year of college in 2001 and then came back as a married commuting student to finish and do my pre-reqs for medicine. I regret not sticking around and enjoying college the first time, since the experience is TOTALLY different the second time around. I feel like I can't even connect with most of the younger students because we're just on totally different pages.

So I'm ready to move on, but I'll always miss the college experience I never had 😉

College has been great to me; it certainly lived up to all the hype. Grew exponentially during my time there and learned a lot (academics and life).

I'm also ready to move on, but I miss it. Got a flashback last weekend when I went back and partied with all my old friends. Good times.. good, good times.

I'm in my sixth year. it'd be pretty sweet to be in med school sometime soon ngl

College was incredible. Loved every minute of it! 🙂

Yes me too.. This is my 5th year and I am done with my degrees and minors....I was suppose to apply this summer but postponed until the next summer for many reasons and thinking of doing another minor as well as more research and volunteering to increase my chances

I was over it by my 5th year.

love college, ready to graduate....especially since I'm going to Disney World with the BF the morning after my last final 😎

meeeee! like i cant wait to quit my college job and stuff, but the college experience itself, i love so much and dont want to end!

I can't wait to graduate in less than 2 months from my Ugrad (medicine in an undergraduate degree in Mexico). Love learning medicine but I totally disliked the social part of the college experience. I had nothing at all in common socio culturally with 99% of my peers at my med school (that happens when you go to a preppy school). I made much better friends with people from public universities who were culturally more like me and lacked the spoiled brat entitlement ideology that plagues people from my alma mater.

The only annoying part is the lack of a legit medical license, I'll get the real bling bling in May but I'm still doing all of the paperwork for the temp license. Can't wait to have at least a pre license to send out job resumes.
How do you study medicine in an undergrad program?

Oh hi Mom, I didn't realize you were on SDN!

Just remember, my darling daughter:

good mentality (srs)...go to college to kick some ass and drink some beer...

Sadly, I think it is less of a joke than you think.

Lol, you are in for an unpleasant surprise. I love my class, but it's way more like high school than college ever was.

I keep reading the same sentiment from different people. Does this mean I'm going to become a bully again? 🙁

I think you think I think it is less of a joke than I think.

I wouldn't have posted it if I didn't find truth in it. It is true to a large extent. But, there are still a lot of bright, motivated kids out there also.

college is sweet, though the sweetest thing ever would be if you get a med school acceptance and are allowed to defer it for one yr.

that way, no worries about getting in, no school work, just parttime work and fulltime partying with your friends. though u have to remember that rest yr is a yr of lost potential salary. 200K is pretty pricey for a break and u really have to think if it's worth it..

College was fun... but I'm hitting the ground running after 3 years here! Enjoyed my time here, definitely ready to move on. Taking a gap year (still not sure if that was the best plan) & then applying to 15 billion more years of schooling! Gotta love health professions 🙂

Undergrad was decent, but grad school just makes we want to get out as fast as possible. No more being a lab rat, please! I'm excited about med school, and I think I'll enjoy it very much. It'll be good to feel like I'm actually learning something again. Oh, and I'm also going to enjoy my year off from school between my graduation and matriculation. A sweet hiking vacation awaits me.

I was never banned before. What makes you think that? Because I have a different opinion than you?

From seeing your responses in a few threads already, you need to get that stick out of your ass STAT

OP's scared of the real world 🙄

college >>>>>> real life.

college:
- still in your late teens/early 20s
- get to learn about whatever you find fascinating
- don't really have to worry about money (loans, grants, bursaries, parents -- the lucky ones)
- party all night and miss the morning classes (unless you're in management in my UG... then no class before noon), nobody cares
- summer off to "work"
- winter vacation
- if you're lucky enough to have your exams end early, EXTRA LONG winter vacation
- free health insurance
- free food all the time on campus

work:
- real world = getting old
- might not be lucky enough to have a job you actually care about
- have to budget, save for the future, make sure you can pay the bills
- can't just not show up for work in the morning because you partied too hard last night
- no summer off (maybe a week or two if you're lucky)
- winter vacation (only from Xmas to New Year's)
- might not have insurance
- nobody gives you free food (you have to do your own work and steal your co-worker's food in the fridge)

I wish I could be young forever and stay in college. 😍

Good luck finding the fountain of youth 👍

Okay now I have a question due to what the majority of you are saying. If college = best years of your lives, then what was h.s.? 😕😕

I for one wasn't thrilled much at all with h.s. and couldn't wait to get out. College is a little better and I'm having some fun here and there but I just don't seem to get the whole best years of my life thing though.

For me, HS = just the crap you need to go through to be able to have good time in uni.

I wouldn't say college years are the best years of our lives (if so, what's the point of living? it's all down hill from here then, innit?). It's just the only time in your life where you'll be a) of age that you can legally enjoy the finer (or funner) things in life; b) of an age where you are able to physically tolerate partying almost every night; AND c) free of most responsibilities that full-adults face.

I'm still looking forward to buying a house, having a CAREER rather than a job, not being broke, and making babies, but college is that wonderful limbo between adult privileges and adult responsibilities. Lots of the former and not so much of the latter....

You seem mad. You should calm down. 🙂

Uhh...I haven't said anything about your opinions. In fact, neither have you so how would I even know if they differ from mine? 😉

I thought you might have been banned because you actually are a little hostile, and because the particular way you jumped into a couple of conversations makes it seem like you've posted before, more than 7 times.

I've been wrong before (fewer than 7 times), so I guess we'll just chalk this one up as my mistake. But I suggest you take your own advice and calm down a little, siski 🙂
