Hey all, I would love any insight into this. Essentially, on AMCAS I am currently designating all of my applications to medical schools as "Regular M.D.." However, I do have SOME interests in particular schools' M.D./M.A.S. or M.D./M.P.H. degrees, and have mentioned that in secondaries (in the "why us" responses). I am wondering whether or not I absolutely must choose "Combined Medical Degree/Graduate" on AMCAS if I am talking about this in my secondaries. I know that at a lot of these schools, you apply for the dual-degree programs during your first year and it is not something you're necessarily accepted into prior to matriculation. I think some schools like Miami are a bit different, however Miami is not one of the schools that I would pursue a dual-degree at.

I think that you can apply "regular M.D." and, if asked, say, "I'm considering a combined degree and the program at [school name] interests me because it ...." I doubt that schools take that non-binding indication of interest on the AMCAS as anything special given the frequency with which folks change their minds. The exception would be MD/PhD where it is imperative to apply right out of the gate.

Thanks so much for explaining, will do!
