I actually think weather is a good conversation-starter, especially in the fall/winter. Since it usually sucks around that time of the year, you both end up complaining, which leads to talking about what you want to do when the weather isn't sucking, which ultimately leads to interests and BOOM numberssss. This is most definitely how it works in real life.

I can't believe you can't believe this. As you can see a lot of people aren't completely comfortable talking to strangers. And no matter how good you are at something, there's always another angle or point of view that you can learn from somebody else.

I can't believe that you can't believe that he can't believe this. We all differ in our degree for incredulity. I almost believe that all three of us score high on this scale.

Thank God I'm not the only person with this problem.... At the rate that I'm going, I have no idea how I am going to get a girlfriend. It's depressing, but at times I convince myself that once I finsh my years of education, I will finally be able to get one... I personally think it won't happen..

And yes, I'm the guy that will ONLY talk about school, because it is the only thing I know about, and i'm also very shy.

I do get depressed about these types of things, because I feel like im wasting my youth - I do admit that I get upset when I see the "friends" on my Facebook having fun, getting all the girls, while I'm at home either studying or just browsing the net.... *sigh*

Go out, have a few drinks, and just talk to random people. Also, if you go around thinking to yourself, "I need to get a girlfriend," you will exude desperation and awkwardness. So instead, go around thinking to yourself, "Hey, it'd be cool to meet some new people and have a good time."

I think what really helps is to find what you think might be a mundane or "normal" but unique part of the week and make it into an engaging story. Small talk is all about having a story to tell. Factoids are boring.
