Anyone Else Sad/Depressed from all the Studying?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
But, how do I make love to the MCAT?

I feel like it's a lot of effort, and no...um, satisfaction?

And I can't believe I just wrote that.

Well you can love mcat by getting all of the practice questions right...

And then you can get satisfaction from that one-sided relationship

If you are already sad/depressed and plan to study until January for the January MCAT, thats no good. There is so much time from now until then. Take frequent break days, and go enjoy your life.

I think you need some motivation.

You shouldn't give up your entire life for the MCAT, particularly if it's not until January. If you work hard all week, make sure you have one night a week you will have for fun. You might even want to consider giving yourself an hour or two a day just to enjoy yourself. I understand the mentality that you feel the need to spend every hour of every day studying for the MCAT, but you really don't and you really shouldn't.

Yes, that happened to me. Your burned out, take a couple weeks off.

After taking around 3-4 weeks off, getting a good workout routine started, and distracting myself with non-MCAT stuff...I'm me again, and ready to start studying once more. 🙂

Hey dartmed,

Sorry to hear that the MCAT has you down. If it makes you feel better, many people undergo at least a little bit of sadness when they study/review for the MCAT; whether its disappointment from low scores, stupid mistakes, or the large time commitment, the MCAT has a way of making you feel bad. Just remember that you are not alone and that this is almost a rite of passage into medical school. Suffering in the short-term will be worth it in the long term. Regarding the lack of social life, that really does suck, but you need to make some time for a social life if you really want one. Considering that you still have a long ways to go before your exam, I would suggest taking one week off from MCAT and then one day (At least) off every week up until two weeks before the exam. Doing this will give you something to look forward to every week and refresh you too! Trust me, you want breaks. I tried studying without some days off and I burned out after a while. I ended up taking a longer break than if I had just taken a day off every week. The fact that you've got motivation to start studying already is very impressive. Don't give up!

Here's a quote that I find inspiring:

"Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll be among the stars."
