I personally am still burned out from studying for the dat all summer long. Now i find myself being very lazy and not caring as MUCH. I just want to hurry up and leave undergrad to get the promised lands of dental school. Anyone else feel this way? lol

Holy crap,

You just described exactly how I feel. I took DAT in Aug, then started school 3 days later. I was just so burned out from studying the DAT I completely blew this semester off. Now I'm paying the price and hate myself. Hey are you a junior or did you already apply to D-schools?

OH MY GOD YES!

What makes it worse is that I am done with all my science classes, and only have generals left to finish....ick. Here's hoping I dont die of boredom.

Just a tip. Take classes you enjoy. That is, if you have the luxury of extra time. If you're done with your pre-req/major requirements, take a class on jazz, performing arts, African dance, community health, medical anthropology, etc. I could have graduated within 4.5 years but I extended my undergrad (and dropped a few AP units) to make my last year more enjoyable. Life is short and you're all relatively young. Act stupid while you can.

And trust me, the grass is not greener on the other side. I'm doing full-time research..."basement level." As a result, I've become more pale, blind and bored. In addition, my muscles are starting to atrophy and my fingers are beginning to mold to my keyboard. I'm not even sure what day it is half the time. Nor does it really matter. Sure there are perks to being a peon. But I won't list them as I am trying to encourage you undergrads.

So there. Run around and enrich yourselves in the glories of academia. And, if you have down-time in lab, do what we did...bring a frisbee and scamper to the nearest open lawn. Little things will keep you sane.

Piznut-
You took the words out of my mouth. I am just so burnt out with studying all summer long (4 months) and I haven't even had time to breathe or take a break or small vacation. Totally slackin off this semester. 😱

You should be slacking off. Don't feel bad, skip a few classes, go out, have a good time with friends... you'll miss undergrad soon enough...

I am a senior and all my transcripts have already been sent in. So i dont hopefully have to perform this semester. My own teachers are asking me why i am showing up to class. I guess im just so used to it. I think that we all deserve to kick back, slack off, and enjoy all the upcoming holidays without having to worry about finals.

Ryan's absolutely right. Y'all need to SERIOUSLY take another look at college and start having yourselves some fun while you still have the luxury. "Free time" in dental school is something you fondly remember, not something you actually experience.

heehee, my position, exactly....I would honestly rather be in class than working! 😳

That's my situation to the T. Untill we get accepted, we gotta stay on our toes. I got Senior projects and what not up the ass to finish. Not to mention too much slacking off and we could lose our edge.

so so so so so so sooooo done with undergrad! No more science classes yet still the same amount of work -- or maybe just being lazy... I think they call it senioritus. Lets just hope that lots of good mail comes on Dec 1 so that Spring 05 will be a nice and relaxing time.

wow i can't believe u guys r that ready to get out..but i suppose i was the same way..lately though i've been wishing i had taken an extra year to finish my undergrad! i graduated in may and have since moved home and am working as an assistant for an oral surgeon..let me tell u it absolutely sucks!!! some days i have to be there at 6:30am and stay till like 5:30pm, i miss having class from 11-2 and then having all the time in world to do whatever i wanted..i miss all my friends and going out and having fun..the real world blows!!! i've actually been entertaining the thought of moving back to the town where my school is so i can be with my friends again until a dental school finally accepts me..so my advice to u guys is chill out! ur grades aren't the most important thing in the world..enjoy what time you have left because i promise it's never going to be the same once it's over

haha, i am glad to see that others feel the same as me.. i was just telling my roommate that i am going to spend the rest of the semester being lazy and enjoying myself so that I dont remember undergrad as boring and filled with studying only. I want to have good memories...if i get accepted..i am going to completely slack off because next semester besides bio seminar,I have classes like ceramics, child psych, guitar,etc...i dont know what I will do with all my free time 😎 , but I am sure i will find something 😉

D2 at Arizona = a simlab vacation (that's what happens when we get all of our sciences and didactic work out of the way first year).

This isn't a great day for me to be making a lot of posts, since I had a pretty rough one at school to day...but oh, what the hell. Might as well show both sides of the coin. 😉

Though, I confess it'd be nice to have the schedule it sounds like you do. I'm just looking forward to next June.

...and if you stay on a strict diet of milk your cutlets will become tender!

I agree with Literati's advice - take the time to exploit and enjoy your youth as time passes quickly.

I'll have to raise my hand in answer to the question, big time. I got done studying for and taking the DAT 1 week before fall quarter started and have not much been in the mood for school these past couple months 😴

On a positive note, I just found out yesterday after looking over my transcripts and visiting with my advisor that I will be done with my degree after winter quarter, which ends in March! 😀 I'm looking forward to not having classes for around five months if I get into D-school this year.

It's gonna be pretty nice to spend 3 days a week with my daughter (13 months old) and working the other 2 days. It's gonna be kind of weird going back to having no homework to do in the evenings, but I'm sure I'll adjust, lol.

I might one up you guys. These events are in succession.
First, take o-chem with lab summer school starting in june.
Second, study for DAT 10-12 hours per day after o-chem is over.
Third, start 15 upper division credit hour semester at university in August.
Fourth, continue to study for DAT, and take test in September.
Fifth, try to salvage grades because of DAT priority.
Sixth, finish secondary applications that are way past due.
So needless to say, my muscles are also in atrophy, and I'm the fattest now that I've ever been thanks to my sleep, eat, study, eat, study, eat, sleep routine. :scared: lol

I think I may have topped you this morning swolf...summer ochem...check...15 credits of science, including biochem, genetics, and 490 level independent study...check...rushing to 8am lab this morning...back out of garage and hit our truck, which my husband left outside, but directly in front of our garage...priceless. I can't wait for winter break, then all I have to do is study about 10 hours a day for the DAT. :scared:

oops, I meant 18 credits...and I'm horribly out of shape as well. I really wish this was about who drank the most beers last night...not who's in the most misery. 😀
