Seems like a lot of people heard back from Columbia already, and I am getting scared! I expected them to be slow, but I'm wondering if anyone else who applied to health management MPH are still waiting?

Yes, people are still waiting.

There are currently like 6 ongoing threads on Columbia and there are a few people that mentioned still waiting. Not to be a jerk, but can we try and combine the Columbia threads? Condensing and using one or two will help people find information more easily/quickly.

I think if you are really concerned/waiting you should call. The worst they can say is a decision hasn't been made. As long as you are not calling everyday/week it shouldn't be a problem to call up and check the status of your application.

.

I know. And I totally considered doing this, and actually did. But nobody seemed to have seen it because nobody replied. I think that's because they all got in and are trying to figure out how housing and financial aid work, etc. Anyway, no offense but I just wanted to ask a Q that's related to the "didn't hear from them" crowd...

I'm actually thrilled you posted this because I'm still waiting to hear and I'm getting very nervous! I applied to the PopFam dept (Global health track). I'm thinking about calling tomorrow if I still haven't heard anything...

There are only three, which doesn't seem excessive, and they serve different topics. One is general, and two others deal with specific issues. Two additional ones are dedicated to comparing Yale and Columbia, and these should also be separate from the others.

Oh, so 6 dealing with Columbia?

I was offering it as a suggestion because with everything spread out its harder for people to get information. Thus why I said im not trying to be a jerk because I knew someone would take it the wrong way, even though I meant it as a good natured suggestion.

beebee-good luck! it already has 91 views so from the looks of it, you're not the only one waiting for a decision 🙂

yeah thanks for your replies... let me know if you guys call them or hear anything 😳

When I called, the lady didnt provide me with much help besides that I would be contacted when a decision was made (the obvious answer). I sent an email out to some1 who works there just now so if I hear back, I will share!

I called last week and the woman said that decisions should be out by today...I have a feeling that is not going to happen

Oh I certainly hope so. At this point, I just want to hear back. The waiting is killing me. I will keep you all posted if I hear anything!

When I called at the very beginning, they said that it should be mid-March that they make a decision (which is today!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Not sure if it will be today but should be this week.

When did you submit your application? I did mine on 12/10.

They just e-mailed me requesting an additional letter of recommendation from my volunteer service abroad (I had to leave early due to health issues but didn't explain that in my SOP). I'm really nervous.

I called yesterday and an admission representative stated that the admission committee is still reviewing my application and they will inform me next week. So I am patiently waiting, its killing me softly since Columbia is my first choice 🙁

I was told that the last wave of decisions are out this week!

Was that specific to your application? I don't understand why they give everyone different responses when they call...

I just called and a very nice woman said that decisions usually go out end of each week.

sweetiep384, Are you waiting for Urbanism as well?

Nope. I'm waiting for SMS though! Social Science Research Track

anybody know why some decisions were sent out early, some this late? Does this mean that our chances are slightiler, or not really?

There are so many things that factor into when decisions go out that it is pretty much impossible to determine why one person heard before another person, unless you somehow find out directly from the school.

For example, people who have learning disability issues have to have those issues addressed during the decision process which could lead to their decision being made later, even if they submitted well before the deadline.

FYI, I got a rejection two weeks ago and applied to SMS Social Science Research as my first choice, and PopFam Sexuality and Health as my second choice. I submitted the application in early December. Hearing from them towards the end of the cycle doesn't necessarily mean you're getting bad news.

It's really a total crapshoot.

Did they tell you that your app was forwarded to your second choice?

I received an email yesterday, asking me if I wanted to change my track to environmental health. It seems a good sign, but since I have already been admitted into three other programs, thus I just said no, thanks!

But I guess they are making the final decisions right now.

what track did you apply to for your 1st option?

Just got back a decision a few minutes ago. Wait-listed. Not happy. How do I get off? Help! This is my first choice school so I definitely would love an opportunity to be there. Any tips would be appreciated.

Well, I think one thing that you can do is send in letter of interests and update letters! Good luck!

*sighs* I just got an email 1 minute ago, saying that my application is under review in my second choice department, and that I need to write another personal statement for that ASAP. Should I do it? I applied to Health Management and my second choice is Health Promotion- which I would be interested in doing, but writing a brand new personal statement within 1 day? Not sure whether I should do it... suggestions please?

I just gave up my spot for Health Promotion so maybe you will get it 🙂. Health Promotion is all about interventions to change health behavior. Write about how you want to learn about developing these interventions and policies for such things as HIV prevention, obesity etc.

They are only giving you one day to write it? That's not fair! I hope you get in though if you do decide to write that PS! *Sigh* still no response for me...everytime I call they tell me that my application is still with the admissions committee

Hello fellow sufferers!!

I applied to the SMS-Health Promotion track at Columbia, and a lady from the department sent me a very nice email on March 12 saying they've received a great number of HP track apps this year, and so decisions will be sent out in the next "7-10 days". If I don't count weekends, it means some time next week, between March 23 and 26!!

Is anyone else also waiting to hear from the same track/dept? What info have you received from the school regarding decisions?

Good luck to all!

They are taking too long to get back to all of us! I have to send my deposits in this week so it looks like I'm going to UPitt 😍

Is Columbia more expensive than UPitt? Just wondering!

If you complete the UPitt program in 1.5 years, UPitt works out cheaper!

Anyone still waiting? I called the office, they said that their next committee meeting will be a week from now. So they won't get back to us until mid-late April!

Hey! I'm still waiting lol. They said that the next time Adcom is meeting is April 27th...but they tell me something new every week so I'm not really sure I trust them at this point

You're STILL waiting?! Have you already sent in a deposit for another school? That is seriously so insane.

Oh my goodness! Is this for an initial decision? Or for a wait list decision??

Ok guys so this is what happened with my decision/application.

I submit January 5th, the deadline day. One of my letters gets uploaded 2 weeks later...so at this point I said its over, I have no chance.

I wait until March to hear back if I got in or not. I call them once a week for the entire month of March. The first week I called, they said my application has been received but is incomplete. I was like okay..and we fixed it.

Second call, during second week of march, they said that the computer says its complete but they have no record of a hard copy so that application is lost. I was pissed. They said they'd take care of it and they actually ended up finding it.

Third call, during third week, they ended up losing it again. Same scenario as above.

Fourth call, they ended up saying that you should have known by now because the deposit of $500 is due April 15th. I said well you haven't told me of any decision. She put me on hold and talked to someone and then she said that they will meet April 13th and I'll be notified next day. Mind you that this is toward the very end up April.

I ended up being emailed April 15th and they gave me an extension till May 15th to decide. Which is the absolute last day they need to know.

So, keep calling them and asking them whats wrong with your application. They ended up losing my application twice but I ended up being accepted for the Epi program.

Thats what they told me. They met April 13th. I got accepted the 15th for Epi.

An initial decision =(. I did send in a deposit to University of Pittsburgh but still would like some type of decision so my 75 dollars or so didn't go to waste
