Anyone else tired of watching everyone they know get accepted?

I'm finishing a MPH before I reapply so technically I'm not getting rejected every year, but my college friends will be finishing medical school before I start. Waiting is tough.

Be patient. You'll have your moment to shine.

What is worse is everyone in this thread who is going through another cycle of torture. ..And it is only July.

You get to see people around you becoming first years while getting bombarded by another rounds of interviews/essays. Horray. 🙂

It's not yet your time. You are exactly where you need to be. There is a bigger plan in store for you, so wait for it. Patience is a virtue. My 2 friends just started their residencies, and yes I say that I should be there, but I was not meant to be where they are in their lives. I even see younger people in 2nd and 3rd year of medical school that I led in honor societies and other organizations in college. Don't miss the trees for the forest. Who knows, you may be a very strong candidate and able to matriculate to your top choice or a top medical school you haven't considered. The sky is the limit. I know I use cliches but they do have powerful meanings. Good luck! 👍👍

5 cliche's in a post, including 4 cliche's in a row. Must be a new record? I agree with your sentiment though.

Yep. I completely understand your frustration. I keep having people telling me "it's not my time", which I know is true, but I really want to get started already 🙁 you're not alone in this, don't worry! GL to u this year 👍

Things will improve with time. This time last year, I was JUST putting the finishing touches on my amcas app....which eventually yielded no interviews. This year I already have an interview at a top 20 school (my first choice nonetheless). Point being this: Not getting in might end up being the best thing that could have happened to you in the long run.

For sure one of the worst parts about not getting in is seeing all of my closest friends going to the same school I got rejected from, they are getting excited for orientation, while I'm looking for meager clinical volunteering opportunities to "beef up" my application and scrambling to find a job. 👎

But perhaps the ultimate worst was when I was told not to reapply this year by my premed adviser. By the time I get in, my friends will be 3rd years...that is IF I get in next cycle.

I wish I had the optimism of the rest of you. But my cynicism sees your optimism as denial. 😛

You have a choice...
to be negative and frustrated about stuff or to be positive and keep moving forward.
It sucks that your premed adviser told not to reapply...but it is just his/ her opinion...that is all. You can listen to your adviser and be discouraged or ignore what was told you and keep moving towards your goal.
I am currently stuck at this job that I dont really like while studying for MCAT and looking for another job.
There were some people at my job who moved on to either a medical school or a better paying job. I was negative about my circumstances....but I had to be so negative in order to learn something from this experience. i learned that my negativity will not lead me anywhere...that I have to stop comparing what others are doing in with their lives and where they are at ( you cannot change where other people are going or what they have done, you can focus on what your actions are)...that I will move from this job to a something better (it might take time but I will get there) ...that it is my responsibility to be positive and dont get distracted by what everybody else is doing...besides, things always look greener on the other side)
people here wrote wonderful things!
good luck to eveybody!!!

Agreed with this one. We all have our own roads to take. Don't compare yourself to others and keep pushing it.

Just when I got used to all my friends getting into medschool, now they're all moving onto residency... :meanie:

And that's just the people I've met since going back to school in my late 20s as a non-traditional student. The people I went to HS and started college with 15+ years ago have been finished with their fellowships for some time now.

I don't have a hard time watching my friends succeed at all. I'm ecstatic that all of my friends that have applied to medical / dental / graduate school have been accepted. What kind of douche-canoe friend would I be if I didn't?
