What kind of rapport do you have with this DO?

can you go in person and ask for it?

I go shadow him frequently. he said he was going to do it over 2 weeks ago and I know he is very busy. he has his own practice and he also has a class he teaches. I just don't want to seem like a pain in the ass.

i was in a similar position--had sent a thank you, kindly emailed the DO hinting at the letter. then like a week or 2 later, he emails me that his father just died and he is dealing with all the arrangements but will get my letter out in a week or so. i felt like such a jerk and told him to take his time. anyhow, this is prob not the case for u, but u never know what's going on w/someone's life i guess.

IT IS JUST LITTLE BIT FRUSTRATING BECAUSE I AM STILL HERE WAITING ON MY LOR WHILE OTHERS ARE ALREADY GETTING INTERVIEWS.

Been trying to get in touch with my DO for 2 months to get a LOR.

Yes, it's very frustrating...especially considering the really good LOR will come from an MD, but the DO schools "prefer" a DO letter.

I've had a very, very hard time getting any DO to call me back let alone let me shadow.

gildas, you're still pretty early, lots of people haven't been complete at schools yet. I'd recommend e-mailing him in a few days if you still haven't gotten it and explain that your applications are complete except for the letter - in the nicest way possible. Then let it go for a while.

I am waiting for thatr DO letter to be received by the schools apparently. IT was sent out at the end of August/early Sept and teh schools dont have it yet

The way I got my DO letter was from this really nice DO that I shadowed. I talked to him about wanting a LOR and gave him my CV, transcript, and a sample LOR that I had written in case he doesn't have time to write a fairly deep one.

He asked if I want him to send it in or if I want a hard copy. Seeing that it might be too much to keep on asking him for a letter every time and for every school that I applied to, I just asked for a hard copy and a bunch of letterheaded envelopes from his office. As it turned out, he used my sample LOR in writing his LOR for me and now, every time I need a letter, I just use the hard copy that he had given me.

Don't know if that helps, but that's another way of going about getting a DO LOR.

Most schools do ask you to sign a waiver against seeing the LOR. Without this waiver, they can't be sure that the letter was written objectively. And, if your university does not have a premedical office that will send your LORs out for you, you should use a service such as Interfolio, so that you never have to touch the letters.
