A couple of days ago I received an e-mail from DMU saying that I was placed on the waitlist. I thought my interview went pretty well, but maybe not as well as I thought. Does anyone know if the admissions office will tell you why you were waitlisted? And does anyone know what the chances of acceptance are once you are waitlisted? This came as a suprise, interviewing as early as I did. I liked the school a lot, but I'll admit after this happened my opinion isn't so high. Any feedback regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah they are pretty speedy about their processes. Their office is really friendly and you could definetly call and ask about your application and why you were waitlisted. I don't know the chances on the waitlist.. I was not eventually accepted, however I know someone who was. I knew by this time last year that I was waitlisted there so yeah it happens. They will eventually tell you which fourth of the wait list you are in.

Inquiring, i have heard that you can call and ask what part of the list you are on, and if you are persistent (i.e. call constantly) that you move up on the list. No 1st hand here, just have had friends that have done that when they got waitlisted and eventually got in.

best of luck

Don't know if I would try that (persistently call I mean); but definately call and ask what's up and what you can do to improve your chances (use different words than that though.) Curious, did you feel that your stats were good?---keep your hopes, because I knew a lot of people that eventually got in (though we did have a large admissions response last year...)

Here are my rough stats, OnMyWayThere:

gpa: 3.6
science gpa: 3.6
MCAT: VR: 7 BS: 10 PS: 10 WS: R

Those numbers are all good... at least we know you'll get accepted somewhere in this cycle and it's their loss! Best of luck, use that interview as "practice". 👍

Dont sweat the waitlist. The school is really paranoid about giving out accepctences this year because of what happened with the class of 2008. Give it some time you'll eventually get off the weight list. It's ok to call and check up on any movement on the waitlist, call on a monday or a tuesday that way the will have time to talk to you.
Good luck

What happened to the class of 2008?

They sent out too many acceptances, expecting that the average number of people would turn down their acceptance, but it turned out to be a gross overestimate. So, more students accepted their spot at DMU than they planned for, and this creates various problems that you can imagine. Parking, for one. There's 30-40 more people than usual in the 2008 class.

How did your interview go and do you remember who interviewed you?

Hey thanks everyone for your encouragement and support. Babyruth, I was interviewed by the panel including Timothy Steele, Jose Figueroa, and Kim Jegel a DO 2007 student. I felt that overall it was a decent interview except for the fact that I had to explain to them why I hadn't shadowed a physician. And on the strenghts and weaknesses question, I'm not sure that I came up with as many as I should have. Anyhow, I'll call the office early next week and see what info I can get from them. On Monday I interview at KCOM and then at CCOM on the 22nd. Does anyone have any advice on interviewing at those schools? And OnMyWayThere, I do feel that the interview was good practice and anything I feel I didn't do well on, I will improve in future interviews. Plus, I interviewed at AZCOM and thought that interview went better. 😎

Think of this as a blessing in disguise---because most DO schools want you to decide right away and make that decision with a deposit.

I would just ask you not to discount DMU yet. Biased because I love my school.... 🙂
