Anyone else without interviews yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yup, you're not alone... *sigh* nobody seems to want me...

Me too! And yay, apparently some programs are already full. That's what I get for applying late 👎

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't get any interviews until late, and I'm now a happy MS/MSTPI at UCSD. I was usually in the later interviews, which was probably a slight disadvantage, but don't freak out too much. It can work out. 🙂

when you say 'late', how late do you mean? 🙂

Also...what are your stats if you are willing to reveal them? That would help us out a bunch.

I've got nothing but I've just started submitting secondaries, I really think I may have to bail on MD/PhD and just get my MD first, seems like way to many programs are already filled up, which is ******ed because it gives August MCAT folks absolutely no chance unless you want to gamble on your scores (but since August was my first time its not like they would have done anything without a score anyways)...I guess this is what I get for choosing to have fun while I'm in school instead of studying for the MCATs on top of my already somewhat rigorous schedule of classes and activities...grrr...a year off is just to long when you looking at a program that at the least it going to run you 7-8 years...I think I'm gonna change what schools I did apply MD/PhD to to just straight MD.

Hey, I was in the same boat as you last year, and I decided to take the year off. It's tempting to think that the training is so long I've got to get it over with now, but if you are in that much of a rush, you'll never make it through. Take a step back, don't do anything too hasty, and keep in mind one year really isn't that long of a delay relative to the ~12-14 years of training that you'll have ahead of you.

That's the way it was with one of my friends who is now an MSTP I at UCSD. He did his undergrad at Northwestern--really tall Indian kid with curly hair (I won't say his name because I dunno if he'd appreciate me just giving it out on an online forum)? Oh, and he's awesome--that must give it away.

Edit: By the way! First interview today! Northwestern! I mean, I'm already in the undergrad part of the honors med program here so I was hoping I would have a good chance at interviewing for MSTP, but I'm still super-stoked! I can't wait!

Congrats on the first interview!!!

Thanks! Yeah, they did e-mail me, but in the e-mail, they said they had previously sent me a letter. I don't think my parents have received it at home yet. And I guess that's right, that they do let people know on Tuesdays. Now I'm just waiting for everyone else.

I called Duke and asked...Hey, what's going on? The system says that it usually takes 2-3 weeks to let people know, and I've been waiting six. So then the lady says, that makes sense, it's taking us six weeks now to screen applications, so you should hear very soon.

Stherling, have you tried to contact any schools to see what's the hold up?

oh, i took the august mcat. that's what i'm blaming it on. BUT, i know at least one school has reviewed my file -- got a letter from WashU MD saying i was under review, and a letter from WashU MSTP saying I was rejected. 🙁 They don't even request essays! I have a decent GPA and a great MCAT, what the hell did they reject me on?! 🙁(

heh. it's not like i didn't expect to get rejected pre-interview at some places, but I was hoping the first interview invite would come before the first rejection! ;P

A number of schools are now pulling most of the information they need for a decision from the MD-PhD questions on the AMCAS and do not require additional essays. Once these schools have your recommendation letters they can decide whether to interview you. This is probably what happend with your application. Senior posters on SDN will probably tell you that this is lot easier and more efficient than it was in the past, when each program had their own essays.

Have no fear, I got a rejection from Johns Hopkins outright, Cornell's MSTP, and the Marshall scholarship all before my first interview invite. So I know it hurts, but your first interview WILL COME!

No interview for me! Do you think I'm competitive enough?
Stats:
3 semesters undergrad research
2 summer programs at med schools
2 years volunteer work
3.95 GPA / 31 MCAT (10,10,11 O)
Chemistry Lab T-A 2 semesters
Chemistry Workshop T-A 5 semesters
Honors Program/Thesis

Nothing out of the ordinary 🙁

Hey, any one knows the phone number of Vanderbilt MSTP? I can't find it in the web... Thanks!

Thanks for the well wishes 🙂 Was away for the weekend or I would have replied sooner! Hopefully I'll have some good news to share soon.

Oh, I know. I was being a little facetious... and I am definitely NOT complaining about not having to write as many essays as people have had to in the past! I still don't like getting rejected though 😛

Is there any such thing as the "one week rule"? If you don't get an interview within one week after your application is complete meaning you get rejected? ... in that case I will know my fate from Wash U tomorrow

I don't think so. Some of my invites came within 2 days of being complete, some within 2-3 weeks. I am still waiting to hear from several schools at which I've now been complete for over a month, so if I get another invite, I'll know for sure that waiting several weeks to hear is not a bad sign. In any event, I definitely don't think you should start to worry after only 1 week.

If that were the case, then I would be rejected by every program to which I applied.

So I don't think the lag time necessarily says anything about what a school thinks of you.

Depending on the size and competitiveness of the programs you applied to it can take a few weeks more. Don't feel shy about calling up the schools. I know many people (including myself) that have been burned by applications that were never complete but that I thought they were (ie. the evaluations never were received).

I submitted my WashU secondary in early August. I just called them up (November 8) and they said it'll take about 2-3 weeks longer to review.

With UT Southwestern, they got back to me almost immediately after I applied in August. By far they've been the most efficient program to which I have applied. I think they were trying to snatch me before I went anywhere else, and their attempt worked. I love that program.

So I think a lot of people with no interviews probably just applied later than the overachievers who finished their secondaries in June. I don't know about you, but I was busy doing research then.

No such thing, I guarantee you. My interview invite for MCW came well over a month after I was complete. Northwestern came almost a month later. It may be the case at some schools, but not many.

I've been complete at some schools for 3 months now and still no response!! Some schools got back to me within a month, but most have been around 2+ months. Be prepared to wait 😳

Absolutely, this is a huge waiting game, esp. at some schools! I know UCSD had their first admissions meeting sometime last week, which is when the first set of interview offers went out.

Don't read too much into anything, you will just make yourself crazy.
